Does anyone know why my 250x would cut off when you go to give it gas? Sometimes it will idle fine and all of a sudden it wil cut off. Can anyone help me please?

sounds like you may have a float or float needle sticking and only getting enough fuel to idle but not rev. just a thought

take the carb off and do a cleaning. be sure to inspect things carefully in the process. double check the float adjustment aswell. sounds as tho the pilot circuit is clogged.

I have cleaned it 2 times in the last week and everything is clean. I can not adjust the float level. I just replaced the float needle just 2 months ago. I cleaned the fuel filters today and it ran a little bit better. I will try to clean the places where the pilot and main jet are tomorrow. Will a 2002 300ex carb fix the problem?

did ya blow the circuits out good with compressed air?

I'm sure your float level is adjustable. I've never seen a carb without an adjustable float.

Usually the metal tang that the float needle attaches to is the adjustment point. You just bend it one way or the other.

the stock 400ex carb float isn't adjustable. i could imagine that carb doesn't have an adjustable float either.

how does your spark plug look?

I went out this morning and cleaned everything. I changed out my jets also. Main was 122 now a 125. Pilot was 38 now a 35. It is hard to crank also. I have to spary starting fluid in it to start. When I sit there i can rev it up. But when I go put it in gear and let out on the clutch it wants to die. My float level is not adjustable.

Ok I just went out and messed with it. I put the stock exhaust back on it. It will sit and idle for a little while. But when I go to rev it up it will. But when it goes back to idle it shuts off.

Is the fuel tank venting ok? Maybe try it with the cap loose and see if that makes a difference.

I took off the cap and it ran the same even when i rev it up. It will idle then just die all of a sudden then takes like 5 kicks to start it up. Could it not get any spark some times or what?

Ok I found out what the problem was. It was not the carb or anything with the fuel system. It was a key switch wire shorting out.
