where is the rebound and compression adjustment on a stock 400ex shock? could smebody explain this to me, or show me a good pic showing where each one is? i want to play around with the suspension it doesn't feel very good right now. it bounces A LOT on this small double I hit. what do i do to fix that, i weight about 130.

ok that will help, but where exactly is the rebound and compression adjustment at on the shock. i know about preload, that's easy, i think the compression is that screw on the top of the shock at the piggyback resovior (not sure) and where isthe rebound, i think that's the one i really need to adjust, cause i bounce a lot, it does that pogo thing they described on that site.

The Rebound is on the bottom of the Shock. If you have a Shock Cover on take it off to find it. I will Post a Picture to try and help you some.

thank you very much, i have never even seen that screw b4, i had no idea it was there, i will mess with it tomorrow, and see what it does for how it rides. and the compression is the screw on the piggybck resivoir, right?

alrighty, thanks again. i feel kinda stupid not knowing where the adjustments were, but thanks for going through the trouble of scanning those pages for me. i appreciate it. my suspension is just so bad, and i always hear good things about the stock suspension so maybe i can make it bettter. it feels really unstable, and bounces A LOT i hit a small double and it feels like i'm bouncing like crazy, i know it's not bottoming though. i think i need to soften the front, i feel every litte bump i hit. so i guess i just have play with everything a little or a lot.

If it`s Bouncing I think that means it has to much Rebound. Rebound is how fast the Shock comes back up.

so turn the screw in???

CounterClockwise= Making it Softer
Clockwise= Making it Harder

I know for the Compression Adjust there is a little S and H for Soft and Hard.

If it`s Bouncing turn the Rebound Softer. I think that is right.

ok, also what does the compression do, what does chaging it do? i know i have to adjust the rebound now, but what should i do with the compression. i have it set somewhere in the middle.

thanx, i think i know what to do now, thanks to you.:) i think i can get this thing to be a lot better (hopefully). i love this forum. if i think of anything i'll ask you, i hope i'm not bothering you with all that scanning though, my scanner is a pos, and hard to use. hopeflly yours is easier to use.

Nope your not bothering me that`s what I`m on here for. I like helping Guys out. I just got my New Elka Shocks all around so I have been reading a lot on Shock Adjusting lately. My Scanner is really nice and not hard to Scan once I figured it out.

i need new tires too, so i think it will also help with the handling when i get new tires. and the 21 inch fronts don't soak up any of the little bumps either. i think want 20x11x9 xcr's on douglas .190 and 22x7x10 Razr's with 1 inch wider offset each side.

when i redo the front end i wanna get the houser +1's long travel with the 19 inch Elka quad rates. but that wont be for a while, i need to get tires, pipe, nerf bars, engine skidplate, then the arms and shocks.

To slow the rebound you stiffen the setting not soften.

"Setting the rebound at full soft allows the shock to return to full extension more quickly."

That was from the website that soggyrider posted. So counterclockwise on the adjuster makes it rebound faster? I thought it made it slower. Anyway how much of a difference does like 1/4 turn half turn and so on make? Is it noticible?

Thanks:square

I am saving for some Tires right now. I would keep the stock rims if you are just going to get .190`s. The stock rims are much stronger then .190`s. I have talked to many GNCC Racers and they have told me to run the stock rims until they are beat up so bad they won`t hold air. He told me many Guys at the GNCC`s use them and they hold up very well unless you were to hit a tree HARD.

The Elka`s have made a night and day difference. You don`t notice near as much stuff when you ride with them. If you get the +1 LT A-Arms and Quadrate Elka`s that thing will be really awesome. I wish I would of had the money for the A-Arms and Shocks, but the stock a-arms are holding up and mostly I didn`t have the money.

That is saying when the Rebound is all the way at Slow it is the Fastest. So if it was all the way at Hard it would be the Slowest.
