There was someone on here who used it to cover the side panels, but I dont remember who. Check out www.tapeworks.com or www.tricktape.com .

99_400ex,

I did the exact mod to my machine around three months ago. The thread is below, so you can see the pics. As for my fears of durability, they are gone. They look as good as they did when I installed.

No problem, hope it works for ya. I've used the TapeWorks vinyl on my sportbike and have had no problems with it.

Cut it a little oversize, you might want to use a hair dryer to heat it up a bit and make it more pliable to fit into the panel dimples a little better. Ask 2000EX how he got it to fit into his. Once you are happy with the size, use a spray bottle with a liquid soap/water solution to spray onto the panel. It will allow you to reposition the vinyl once you put it on. Once you are happy with its position, all you do is squeegee the excess water out from underneath it. Then give it a few hours to dry completely and it won't move on ya. Then go back and trim the excess along the edges.

i thought of using a hairdryer also but i was going to clean the plastic with alchol and just stick it on and cut the excess of with a razorblade

You could do that, but if you get a bubble or wrinkle in it, its probably gonna be hard to work out.

If you ordered the vinyl from TapeWorks, I believe they send you an installation tip sheet. If not, you can go to their site, and they have some graphics install info. You are going to be working with different angles and edges, and it may require working the vinyl around a bit, which is why I suggested the soap/water solution. As long as you remove the excess solution from under it, it will not ruin the adhesive, and the liquid soap actually acts like a little bit of an adhesive also. Just give it a day to "cure" before you go rubbing up against it.
