Ok I'm looking at buying another a dirtbike just to screw around with at the dunes and let my buddies ride and I came across 3 affordable bikes. Which bike would you buy If you had to pic one of these 3. I am pretty torn on which one I want. Keep in mind this bike is going to be used for nothing but dunes riding and most likely ridden very hard.

First one: 1997 yz125

Get the CR500. That bike hasn't changed in decades, so there are tons of cheap parts for it. I've ridden many 250's in the sand, and while they're pretty fast, I've found myself wanting more power. The torque and horsepower of the CR500 will make dune riding much easier. Don't even bother with the tiddler, unless you're going to subscribe to EBC for a year's worth of clutches.

I have pretty much ruled out the 125 because most of my buddies out weigh me by a good 30-50lbs. Me being 5'10" and 160 I could still have fun on the 125 but most of my friends are around 6' and 200lbs and a bone stock 125 wont cut it in the sand.

Yeah, I'm 6'2" and 210, and a 250 is definitely the minimum. My old room-mate had a 1991 YZ250 and it ran pretty well, but the design is still kind of in that transition period between the original mono-shock bikes and the new stuff. That, and the powervalve covers leak like a mother. I guess it's really a matter of preference, and whether you trust your buddies on a CR500.
