You'll be alright w/ 11:1. I was fine when I ran 11:1, but when I went to 12.5:1, I blew 2 head gaskets before buying the studs.

I have an 11:1 Wiseco 87mm piston, and my studs lasted for a while, but the front one by the exhaust header eventually failed. You may get by okay for a while, but the likelyhood of you eventually having problems is pretty good. If you can't afford them now, I guess you could give it a shot.

buy them, its worth the 60$ I stripped my studs with a 416 11:1 so I would defenitly recomend you to install them !

I am almost 100% positive that is USER ERROR, most likely you over torqued the head studs!

Wasn't me. It the guy that fixed my top end that did it.

I would pay to have them installed. They need to be installed pretty straight, and you'd have to have a roll form tap and some sleeve locking compound. Since you're tapping directly into the cylinder, you pretty much only have one chance to get it right.

I agree with F-16Guy. I wouldn't try and do it yourself. Just be sure to tell the machine shop to use a roll form tap--don't assume they'll know to do that. Giveing them the installed stud height from the service manual wouldn't hurt either.

I see what you mean that your short money, but $60 now could save you money down the road. Once you take off studs or overtorque them, clearances and stretch may change causing problems down the road. Maybe just a little food for thought.

I would deffinitly recomend doing them. I had my 416 built this spring early summer and the engine is back at the machine shop now with a blown head gasket awaiting heavy duty studs. Dont skimp now it will cost more in the long run.

like I said before, I ran 11:1 for three years w/ no problems. For now, I would just but it back together and ride it. Next time u put rings in it, u can do the studs (if u feel u need them). Out of the many ex's I've rode w/, I personally have never seen a 11:1 blow a head gasket due to the studs.
