if all I do is change my bore from 400 to 416 on my ex will i really notice any power differences?

i did that but i also did a cam and port and polish and it was a night and day difference. i love it

I did a Stage II cam along w/ mine so i dont know what just bore would do but I am sure u would see a difference, specially if you decide to go w/ a higher compression ratio piston. Thats what i would do if i were just gonna bore it.

The difference in the stock 397cc displacement to 416cc displacement isn't much of a difference in and of itself. The higher compression added with a 416cc settup (be it 10.8:1, 11.0:1, 12.0:1, etc.) over the stock 9.1:1 is where the more significant gains come from. Since there aren't any stock compression 416cc pistons avaliable, yes I think you'd notice a difference. But it will mostly be because of the compression increase, no so much the displacement increase.

If your going through the trouble to bore out for a 416cc piston, then go one step further and do a cam as well. Then you'll really feel a difference.

Yeah im w/ GPracer on this one. it seems alot lately i have been seein threads where people only wanna do one and wanna know which one gives the best power, cams or bore tryin to save $$. Its almost like the cam and bore need each other to really make a noticeable diff. In the long run u will save yourself $$ and time by doin both @ the same time. You will be happy w/ the outcome. Have your head worked, bore to a 416, run a stage 2 cam, and throw a revbox on it and you'll have you one bad 400.

Would a higher compression piston on a stock bore be a lot less than a 416 of the same compression with cam and pipe?

I will have to agree, I ran a stock bore hi compression piston, cam, head work, and a FCR 39mm and it kept up with bored 400EXs and 450Rs. I have also recommend this setup to a guy that had a 426 and he says he likes the stock bore setup more! He says he feels the power on the "butt dyno" better! And unless you are building a dyno queen, you want "butt dyno" power, not something that unleashes the power at 7500 RPM.

Just my personal opinion! Take it or leave it!
