Since it's not released yet- and something i have seen repeatedly on every list from us forum readers is an interest to see this new kawi dubbed "Tecate".

I agree- therfore I sent a request to Kawi for just that.

If anyone else wants to see this be the new Tecate- .......email em----we are their buying public, i bet they listen.

I think racing quads should have names- let the dirtbikes have letter designations!

yeah, right. Are you a tecate.com owner or did you reserve a similiar domain?

No dude, im just a fan of the bikes.

look on the forums for yourself - Im just trying to help people get what they ask for- by asking them to help themselves.

no offense, but i don't think it would work. they've already got most of the bike planned out it seems and they're supposedly going to be starting productions of them in january. so i doubt they're going to want to have inform everyone on a name change and make all new decals.

you know?

I wish they WOULD call it the Tecate. I'm getting sick of everything being the R model. CRF450R, TRX450R, LT450r, KFX450r, Predator 700r,...etc.

Decals are cheap, easy items to incorporate on a product. They havent spent any money on promotion (consumer brochures) at this point, so I see no reason they couldnt make this happen.

All im saying is email em with the request- not trying is a sure way to not get what you want.

Think Tecate- :D

Oh, and Jess- I totally agree with you. Dirtbikes get letter number names- quads used to get actual names. It would still be the kfx 450r model Tecate!

not trying to start an argument at all with you or anything, but some/a lot of the earliest quads were just numbers

ie. 250r, lt250r, lt500r, 250x, lt230, even the trikes were. 250r, 200x, 350x, 250sx, atc90/70/110, etc. and now they're still doing it. ltz400, kfx400, 400ex, 300ex, yfz450, 660r, 700r, they actually have them for the banshee(yfz350) and blaster(yfs200) too but the names are just easier to remember.

it's just yamaha and kawi really that has had names

Yes they all have numbers but like you said, names are easier to remember. Which is why they should call it Tecate...and for historical/sentimental/coolfactor values. LOL.

BTW, don't forget about quadracer, quadzilla, big red, predator. Its not just a kawi and yomamaha thing.

On a side note, isn't the LTR called a quadracer or something like that? After writing this, I realized that there a lot of bikes that don't have the numbers and the letter "R" after it. I guess I hear about the 450s more than everything else combined.

I think the KTM is the only one who has both a 450 (sport) and a 450R

and with reguard to quad names- my point is only that i see many forum posters saying that they would like THIS particular kawi 450 to be called a tecate - im just trying to inspire anyone with the same thoughts to act on it.

But i do preffer the names to the model numbers. Hands down!

If i recall correctly, was the 250r originally a fourtrax 250r, I'm goin all the way back to 1986, If i am wrong please correct me.

Oh yeah, I think Tecate would be a great name, i always liked the old ones, so why not go retro.

yeah you're right. I didn't put that down because all the hondas are sportrax or fourtrax. They don't really have a name for any single sport quad nowadays. They do have them for the utes though...recon, rubicon, and rincon.

The only quads that don't have names that you listed are the kfx400 and yfz450. All the rest have names. 250R is a Fourtrax, LT250R is a QuadRacer as is the LT500R. The 250X was a Fourtrax and the LT230 & LTZ400 are both Quadsports. The 400ex and 300ex are both SportTrax's and the 660R & 700R's are of course Raptors. Yamaha also has the Banshee, Blaster and Warrior not to mention the Wolverine. Polaris has the Predator, Outlaw, Scrambler and TrailBlazer. Kawasaki also had the Mojave. Arctic Cat doesn't use a name for it's DVX400. Even the GasGas's use the name WildHP. And btw, the original KXF250A1 was not called the 'Tecate', it was actually the 'Tecate-4'

I said years ago that when they came out with their 450 4 stroke they should name it the Tecate-45. The 4 stands for both 4 wheels and 4 stroke and the 5 stands for being 5 years late to the party! hehe.

that's mostly true to a point. the hondas are all sportrax or fourtrax. the suzukis are all quad sports or quad racers. all the raptors would just be raptors, which is why they have the numbers to distinguish them. no individual "names" really

tecate-45 would be pretty cool. or even a tecate-450?

I am all for using the names for quads, but i think the reason they have went that way with the 450s is it sounds more serious. I mean could you imagine a pro riding a quad called the Wolverine or something like that LOL. But don't get me wrong i do like the Tecate idea! It would be nice to have something to distinguish all the new sport quads other than TRX, LTR, YZF, ect.... but that just seems the racing way. What makes me mad is yamaha making like the Raptor 350 and what not, com'on how can they abandon the warrior. I don't like manufactures trying to make all their machines alike, as yam seems to make every quad look like a raptor and as honda is doing with the 450r. The Warrior and 400ex could use the updates but damn keep the styling cues!!

if you wanna call it a tecate, call it a tecate.

i think if enough people use tecate as a name for it, it will become popular and websites will start labeling it "KFX450r/Tecate" and maybe even magazines

I have a real tecate.. trust me this new one COULD not get the name! it's 4 stroke... those who know bikes well ( like most of you one here) know that the tecate 3 and 4 wheelers of the late 80's were the kings being 2 stroke monsters and in my shed at home they still are :D

I have 2 tecate 3's and my 86 250R atc, with a quad you have extra weight with that extra tire, just need one in the front for us..

We've beat up on the raptors, banshees, 400ex's, etc but not yet on a new 450R but my neighbor just bought one so we'll see soon
