okay my motor was build by duncan and i called them about upgrading to 465 he told i have a lawn mower motor basically.
he said the money id spend going 465 is not worth the performance gains because its hardly even noticable. other then low end torque.

he suggested that my 440ex national kit with my mods and porting is about the best youll get on a 400ex.

if i get a hot rods stroker crank and piston do i have to do any boring cause the guy at atvunlimited told me that it would work on my current sleeve since its already 89mm. if the piston is the same size only with stroker crank would that make a true 465cc. i thought the 465 was 92mm. will i still have to have my center case machined for the pc4000 power cylinderwith the hot rods stroker kit. or what other machine work will be required please help

if you know of the 465 performance gains over 440 and how to do the work letme know what i should do, stay 440 or go 465 stroker w/nos.

i also plan on doing flywheel lightening, valve seat work, 1mm os valves, hd valve spring w/tit retainers, hardface rockers, stage 3 stroker cam, and highoutput stator&coil.

please leave all suggestions, thoughts, knowledge and experiences for us to learn thank you

i already have a 2003 400ex with 4800 invested in aftermarket parts. i paid 3800 cash for it 4 months ago.

buying a new 5000 dollar quad isnt possible for me right now. i wanna max out the 400ex over the winter and ripp it up all next year then maybe sell it for something bigger and badder.

and from what ive heard and read about the stock 450r ......
not much beyond my screamin stage 2 440ex

what is the best race quad out there? as far as torque/speed and dependabilty

chevyz what is your 450r stock or modded and is the 440 you have on par to the 450r if not what all mods are on the 440

your 400ex should hang pretty close with a 450r now, and if it's dependable now,I wouldn't go making any less dependable by messing with it. Expessially if you are planning on selling it.

you have a good point but im willing to learn about dependability the hard way. the guy at duncan say the 465 is only a little less vulnerable then the 440 if built right.

so if there are not any mistakes during building then it would be as dependable as the parts you pt in it. RIGHT?

and id never sell it whole id part it out on ebay probbly

and besides if the 465stroker with nos did as i expect then id have no need to sell for a long time.

I think a 465 with nos, porting and all the other goodies would be a hell of a lot faster than a 440 no matter what you throw on it. Just my guess though.

i think putting nos on a 400ex is not a good idea. your just asking to blow your motor. my 400ex is about as modded as im going to go. i keep on putting the money into it and it was just never fast enough. thats why i bought a banshee, 400 is good for trail riding and banshee is good for dunes. if your planning on selling the 400 next year then stop spending money on it, your not going to get anymore for it with it any more modded

Why would putting nos on a 400ex not be a good idea??? How is it any different then putting nos on any other motor?

ive watched many drags and 440ex's eat banshee's for lunch everytime. what is all the hipe about banshees there unreliable if modded.

if i wanted to top out a 2stroke id get on my rm250 which will definately beat and keep up with most banshees.

my 440ex is up to speed with my rm 250 unfortunately i havent raced a banshee with the 440ex but i will and i bet i eatem cause they wont have a chance with all my low range torque and once i iht 3rd 4th 5th with the midrange power ill be gone while the 2stroke is begging for low end torque

wow you need to calm down here. im not here to say my banshee is faster then your 440 and never did i even state that. but yes my banshee would eat my 400 alive. yes banshees can be unreliable if they are modded, but the 400ex is the same way. yes the 400 will probably still be more reliable then the banshee but i bought it knowing this. ive gone out and raced many many four strokes and ive lost to alot of them. but my bike is pretty much stock and all of the races are pretty close. all im saying is the 400 is too outdated and im sure you have heard this many of times but its true. just face it your 400 will never compete with the new bikes. it might hang with them when they are stock but you add a mod and your out of the race. i love my 400 but im living with the fact that it is what it is, and its not fast.

My 440EX has a 12:1 piston, port and polish work, 3 angle valve job, stage 2 Hotcam, 450r carb, K&N air filter, rev box, FMF exhaust and a ton of little parts I just cannot think of at the time. My 440EX will beat or run with slightly modded 450s pretty easily, but both of my 450s will eat it up. Hell, my HRC 06 outran a 440EX with all the work (Webcam, P&P, ect.) on alky at my last trip! I am a 400EX guy at heart, I love the bikes and I am not being biased at all. I just honestly think that when it comes to performance, the 450s dominate the 400s. Save your money until you get a 450.
