what would be the better modification?

a 416 kit or a stage 1 hotcam?

what kind of increases would i see with each individual one?

would a cam give me more power than just a 416 or is it the other way around?

also with a 416 kit, would i be blowing headgaskets left and right?

how would my chances be against a stock 04 450r? alos these mod WILL be with a slip-on HMF and a twin air airfilter

I can only answere a few of your questions, i have a 416 and stage 2 hotcam and i could barely pull on my buddies 06 yzf450 but mostly b/c his ran like crap from the factory. He couldnt do more than 3/4 throttle or it would bog down.
I doubt w/ one or the other your lookin @ you will be able to whop on a 450. And w/ mine so far i havent had to worry about the headgasket. Runnin strong so far.
If i were you i would bore first then later on you can go back in and put a cam in guess it depends alot on the $$ you got and if your doin it yourself.

do both, and a full system. u will be lloking at like 32-33 hp and u will be able to beat stock 450s. i will be doin that soon, but i will have a 11:1 piston too;)

if u don't plan on doin both, then i would definately do the cam first. with a big bore and a stock cam, the engine will not be able to breathe as well.

u shouldn't blow any headgaskets with the 416. i have only heard of this on the 440s without hd studs

Save your money until you cam afford both at the same time. It will save you money in the long run and the power increase will make it feel like a whole different quad.

Stock 450s suck. They are the most corked up things on the planet. I say do both and you should have no problems running with very lightly modded 450s.
