300ex ac nerf bars????

I just purchased a used set of ac nerf bars, they are in good shape, just need polishing. My question is, when I mounted them, where they bolt to the engine mounts there is a gap between the two bars where they slide together. The bars a very solid, and beside's the slight mod to the pegs went right on. Is there normally this gap where the slide together or did I do something wrong??? If you have any pic's that would be great..thanks for the help guys!

i had a set on my old 330 before it got stolen.. if i rember correctly there was a pipe/bar that slide inbetween to close that gap.. on the dg aluminums i have on my 250 they slide togeather

They do slide together, but the dont slide together tight.
