How are the stock z400 suspenions for motocross, Im not planning on racing a lot, But i want to start racing every now and then but dont really want to spend the money on a full suspenion...So how are they stock or what are some other things to do to make up for it without spending all the money of getting a whole new setup?
thanks, matt

first get rid of the pogo stick 03 front shocks you have and step it up to 05 or newer Z shocks with piggies on them or you can put 450R shocks on. huge huge difference. after that you can send them out to gt thunder in ohio to get them revalved and respringed for less than half of buying the elkas and works packages and they are just as good. i got all 3 of my shocks done to my riding style and weight and it was 750 bucks including the linkage for the rear shock.awesome suspension now.

i raced stock for a few races and my dad raced stock all last year the stock shocks ant bad bad but 450r shocks are a ton better. i have the 450r shock on my dads z400 right now and they work better than after market ones i have riden.

what after market shocks have you ridden on? stock shocks do not even come close to comparing to after market shocks or even rebuilt stockers. if they ones you rode on were not valved right then i could possibly see that though.

i had works shock on it before for like a day and they were horilbe but they were to soft. the 450r shock blow away the stock z400 shocks.

its a periodic problem with our kind of bikes. every once in a while while you are racing the seat flies off so you have to finish with no seat. i think im going to do the seat mod so my seat flying days will be over.

Stock shocks come nowhere near aftermarket, excpet for maybe the new YFZ's or LTRs. But for your case i would recommend you look into getting some used aftermarkets off ebay or this site. Even if your just rec. riding those stock shocks beat you up...if you do buy used though make sure to ask alot of questions and know what your getting. If you find a set your interested in you could post something on this site about and im sure you would get some good advise. But as long as they are functional, just about anything aftermarket is gonna be better then what your riding!
