timing chain tensioner????

at idle, I cannot hear it, when I rev it up and on its way back down, i heard a loud chain nosie, i am pretty sure its the timing chain loose, can I tighten it myself? is the tensioner no good anymore? how do you check? thanks alot

I've heard of them breaking, so it would probably be best to pull it out and check it instead of having your timing chain fall off or break at 8,000 RPM. It's only two bolts.
