When I get done washing my YFZ with soap and water, then compressed air, I hose that thing down big time with WD-40. Engine, Frame, Chain, Shocks, every little nook and cranny I can spray I do. Once I'm done I park in in the garage. Is it okay to just leave the WD-40 on the bike like that or should I wipe it all down?

WD40 will break down shock oil so don't get it on shock shafts. Its more of a water dissapant/penetrating oil/cleaner than a lube. It won't hurt anything but I think you'd be better on the chain using true chain lube.

My bro-in-law went to a bike mech school and the instructors told him all that.

If you've sprayed it on your chain you definately want to relube your chain, WD-40 is a water/oil displacer. Spraying it on your chain displaces the oil and thus why you need to relubricate it.

What about a non o ring chain?

You still lubricate a non O-ring chain, so if you do use WD-40 make sure to relube your chain.
