I have cable internet, and I have the cable line connected to the modem, then I got the router. My internet works when I have the ethernet cable connected right from the modem to the computer. But when I hook the ethernet cable from the modem to the router the internet doesnt work. I have the wireless chip thing in my laptop. And it is reading a signal from the router, but it isnt getting internet. Any help here would be greatley apreciated.

check your security setting on the router and computer

you need to talk to the router.......start by unpluging everything then start with the modem than the router and last your computer.

after your computer reboots open explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 or try 192.168.0.1

than a box with popup and type in admin as password and you should be in.

just restarting everything might work its plug and play now

More than likely you need to call the cable company and tell them that you have just bought a router. Some of them only activate one device, which in this case was your computer. Now you need them to activate the router. They will more than likely ask you the mac address of the router. Most of them has it stamped on the bottom of the router.

FYI look in your router settings for a option to save settings to your desktop in a file. That way if somethin goes wrong you can just reload that file and your settings will be like that again :)
