Get the 3 layer gasket from your dealer (oem trx gasket). Drill the rivets holding the 3 layers together, and use 1 of the outter layers.

I may be wrong, but aint the spacer plate needed on engines using the 86 piston? for instance, I have an 88 bottom end, with a spacer plater using an 86 top end.

you can also use a cr 250 head gasket to get more compression I think its a 99 - 01 cr it should bump it up around 190 psi It did on mine anyway

the bike looks good so far

There are a couple things you can do to your head to get the compression up. There is the 3 piece gasket trick. I don't know much about that. You can get an ATC250r head gasket, its thinner than the trx gasket, then there is the cr250 head gasket. You can also get your head machined down a little. Or the best bet IMO is get a Pro Design cool head, and a 21cc done. 21cc is the smallest you can go that will still let you run pump gas, but I would make shure to use the TRX head gasket with that.

yer ,its a bad idea splitting the 3 piece head gasket ..use a cr one , or better still get u head skimmed

I agree. .. I have used the split TRX head gasket before with no negative repercussions. . basically 2 CR gaskets for the price of one that way. . .

Also, chillinsk8err, I think you have have you're a little mixed up with the spacer plate thing. . . '86 cranks have a shorter rod and neither style of piston will work with a spacer plate. ONLY the '86 style piston will work WITHOUT a spacer plate.

A motor with the '87-'89 crank can either run the '87-'89 piston with NO spacer plate or can run the '86 style piston WITH a spacer plate. Any of these crank/piston combinations can be used in any year TRX or water cooled ATC 250R's Cases/Jug.
