ITP QuadCross Round 9 - Glen Helen

After only a short two week break, it was back to racing again. This round was suppose to be scheduled for Gorman I-5 Race Way, but due to the fires in that area, it was moved to Glen Helen.

I had a chance to meet TJ Dietrich out at Racetown 395 on saturday, the day before the race. Just wanted to say him and his old man are really cool peeps, and that TJ was giving pointers out to the local riders. Oh yeah, he was clearing every table top on the vet track with ease, hes a great rider.

The race was on the back track, and the gate thre only has 10 spots, and with 15 pro racers, that meant qualifying so main gate picks. BUt they decided that they would take both motos into consideration.

And the first heat was off, with Dustin Nelson grabbing the holeshot.

Nelson was able to keep his lead after the first corner.

With TJ Dietrich in the second place position, and Doug Eichner running in third.

[quadchick01]

Levi Marana was running in the fourth spot.

[quadchick01]

Nelson took a quick lead leaving the rest of the riders a few seconds behind him.

[quadchick01]

While Doug Eichner was able to make the move around Dietrich to take over the second place position.

[quadchick01]

Levi Marana was also able to make the move around Dietrich, putting Marana into this third spot.

[quadchick01]

But it was Dustin Nelson who was able to take the first place win for the first heat.

With Doug Eichner grabbing the second place spot.

[quadchick01]

And Levi Marana rounding out the top three.

And here is Doug and TJ shaking hands shortly after finishing the race. This just shows what great sportsmanship looks like.

For the second heat, it was Kory Ellis who was out front right off the start.

With Jeff Spooner in the second position.

[quadchick01]

And Cyle Chislock running in the third place position.

[quadchick01]

Kory Ellis was running in the first spot, and had quickly put time between himself and the rest of the racers.

While Cyle Chislock made the pass around Jeff Spooner to take over the second place position.

[quadchick01]

Darrel Patton finally got his 450 running, so he did not have to race his 700 this time in this pro class.

But it was Kory Ellis who went on to take the win for this heat.

With Cyle Chislock taking the second place spot.

[quadchick01]

And Jeff Spooner rounding out the top three.

The pros were ready for the main, and the holeshot would go to, well at this picture, it wasn't really clear who would be able to pull out of this first.

But out of the corner, it was Dustin Nelson in the lead.

Dustin Nelson was in the lead, with Cyle Chislock in second and Doug Eichner in third.

But Doug Eichner was quick to get around Chislock putting himself into the second place spot.

But it looked as if Cyle was not going to give it up that easily.

TJ Dietrich was running in the fourth place position, and hoping for a podium.

With Jeff Spooner in fifth, and Levi Marana running in sixth.

[quadchick01]

Chislock seemed to have a problem, as all of his tires were up in the air.

Dustin Nelson was still in the lead with quite a bit of time.

[quadchick01]

Doug Eichner was still holding strong in the second place spot.

[quadchick01]

With TJ Dietrich still in the third spot.

[quadchick01]

Levi Marana moved into the fourth place position, when Jeff Spooner got a flat tire.

And John Shafe was in the fifth spot.

With Cyle Chislock closing in the gap.

[quadchick01]

Here is Dustin Nelson jumping the double that was part of the peewee track until they moved it somewhere else so that they could extend this track.

Something had happended to Levi Marana dropping him into the back of the pack, and moving Chislock into fourth.

[quadchick01]

But in the end is was Dustin Nelson who grabbed the main win and with a 1-1 finish, he took home the overall for the weekend.

Doug Eichner grabbed the second place position, with a 2-2 finish.

[quadchick01]

TJ Dietrich finished the main in the third place position with Cyle Chislock in fourth. But because they where including the heat finishes as well Chislock grabbed the last podium position for the weekend with a 2-4 finish, and Dietrich grabbed fourth with a 4-3

And in case you where wondering where Kory Ellis wsa, dont worry he is fine. But he clew his motor in the Open Pro class, so he was not able to race in the second moto, in either class.

Roberto Villalobos, who traveled from Mexico to race this round of the Quad Cross grabbed the win in the 4 Stroke Intermiediate class with a 1-1 finish.

Jeremy Headlee grabbed the second place position with a 2-2 finish for the weekend.

[quadchick01]

And Chris Vigdahl grabbed the third spot with a 4-4 finish.

Neel Hill worked his way up through the pack to grab the overall for the weekend with a 1-2 finish for the 2 & 4 Stroke Novice class.

David Ragan grabbed the second spot for the novice class with a 4-1 finish.

[quadchick01]

And Jevan O'Neil grabbed third with a 2-3 finish.
