I see what you are saying....It had the following uhhhh stuff....
250ex motor
400ex frame
KFX 700 exhaust (no, it was NOT jetted)
with Raptor plastics.... I ***** you not.

A bunch of friends gave all the extra parts we had, and we MADE it happen. It ran for about 2 years!

His dad bought him a new z400 yesterday. So it ended well....

thats not a 250ex,sorry bud,not tryin to be a dick, but 250ex's dont have kickstart, and the head on the 250ex is mounted straight up,in the pics yout posted up the head has a slant to it,and the exhaust wraps around the frame which the 250ex does not do,so its either a 300ex motor or a 250x motor

Fuel leak from the gas tank where the bolts hook up from the frame to the gas tank. Happen to my friend to but not as bad because he shut the gas off. that sucks.
And that is a 250x lol.

My man didn't have the money to buy a quad (full time college student).....so we were sitting around one day sooting the ****, and realized we could probably build him a quad.

I am not a mechanic, but I shure did a lot of beer drinking and laughing when we built this over the winter of 2002-2003. Those were good times.

Unfortunately, i have no "before" pics.:( . However, I will get in contact with him and see if he has any.)

That is a KFX 700 stock exhaust. The Raptor plastic melted.

Thats a 250x motor and the frame is either 250x or 300ex..not a 400ex.

10-11-2006, 08:29 AM
Aye.. motor and frame are/were both 250x.

He got a little info wrong.. no biggie. It's not his quad.. lol.

Usually when they burn up like that it's from the battery shorting out internally. Catching fire. Catching the plastic and seat on fire.. then that's all she wrote.

Nope. The thumbs on both hands are pointing towards the burning quad.

Here is the whole story....I was riding along and I heard him scream "My quads got a flat tire", or that's what I thought he said. (Not used to hearing someone say "Help, my quads on FIRE"...) Anyway, I looked back and saw pretty much pic #1. I jumped off, and told him we needed to find a mudhole, and use our helmets to scoop water out of.
Just then, my other buddy came up and said "Don't the gas tank might blow and catch your *** on fire".

So, we didn't.

He said he was just riding along when flames shot up between his legs. He jumped off and ran after me.

He is only 17 and was an all-state lineman in football. Yes, They are both big boys, and both local football heroes.

My wifes family is from Jenkins Jones W Va. (not far from Beckley, as the crow flies anyway)

One road in, one road out, often closed.

No fire dept - yer house (or quad) catches fire and yer screwed.

No post office or traffic lights.

Most everyone gets around on brand new quads, which cost more than the "houses" they live in.

An excellent location to kill someone....if yer so inclined..... "Hey...I'll meet ya in Jenkins Jones...." is NOT something you want to hear.

Sewer pipes run out of the house....and into the river.

Its a very ....uhmmmm....interesting....place.

SO you had the camarea ready, the lighter and the smile on the faces, and got a new quad the next day. I smell a insurance fraud. O well thats good thinking.

It took like, 45 mins. for the quad to completely burn. Believe me, he was phased. You just have to understand Chris (owner of the quad). To say that he is a good sport and a class act is an understatement.

I (we) believe everything happens for a reason. I told him that if this had never happened then maybe 10 miles down the trail he would have flipped it and been either seriously injured or killed. You never know.....(God's mysterious ways....)

Either way he is better off now.

Depends, there are quite a few people out there that don't have their quads insured, and some of them do.

I don't.

DieselBoy
10-17-2006, 07:01 PM
i didn't...practically nobody will insure a quad, and the ones who do charge you half as much as the quads worth per year. Besides, I don't ride anywhere tha I perticularly need it.
