Does running 50/50 race gas make a noticable difference on a relatively stock engine. If so what kind should I use.

you only need to be running race gas if your engine is modified and has high compression

Your motor will actually make less power with race gas because it will run richer. You have to be jetted correctly for race gas.

If you dont have high compression your just wasting your money on race gas.....

Although, race gas does burn at a lower temperature. so you could gain some power on a stock motor(lower temp) if it was jetted accordingly. but I dont think it justifies race gas useage

I want to say you should be using race gas if your motor is over 200 psi but I think this only corresponds with a 250r motor..

does anyone know the stock PSI of a 400ex motor?

If you run 50/50 race gas your not going to lose hardly any power if any at all, it will help your bike run cooler,,,I am going to have a 10.5:1 compression in my 505 and Tom is Still making me run very high octane (C-14). Tom says it will not only make your bike run cooler but last longer, race gas has lead additives which are good for your motor!! A lot of guys think that making it cooler on a stock machine will slow it down but thats only to an extent! It is pretty hot here in TX so cooler actually makes it faster,,,thats also why all these guys run a lower temp thermostat in their cars!!!

yea, i think 97 octane gas will actually fun better than race gas on a stock motor, works fine for me atleast

i run 93 octane with 104 octane booster. i noticed a little more power. idk why it woul give more but me and 2 of my friends who use it thinks it makes a little difference.

where do you get 97 octane gas?? the highest pump gas octane around here is 93 or I think ive seen 94. unless you buy turboblue and the pump says its only 100. turboblue used to be a lot more back in the day.

With a thuper you are okay with pump up to 11:1 compression. A highly modded motor may need more.

CT told me that on my R you can run up to 180psi before you need at least 100 octane, LRD confirmed it. My buddies R ran 215 psi, he dumped 93 pump gas in it on accident and melted a hole in the top of his piston.

Bee and Chad,
Im running a pro design cool head with a 19cc powerstar dome. Should I be running 50/50 (112 octane/93 octane) or would I need to run 100% 112?
I can only buy 5 gallons of 112 at a time, and its about a 15-20 minute drive.

stocktires,
i think you will be just fine with 50/50, however Tom told me with my motor I would be OK with 50/50 but highly recommends full race gas!!! I buy my c-14 in 55 gallon drums!!!

yea i bet a 55 gallon drum of that stuff is cheap!
but i wonder... i dont think running race gas in a stock motor or mild compression would make it run worse. i mean your decreasing heat because of the high octane and plus it burns longer should give you a little torque increase and has lead helps lubricate top end some. only disadvantage its expensive.

If any of you have a small airport next to where you live, Go there and pick up 5 gals of AV fuel... THis stuff is around $2.00 a gal, and is rated at 100oct, but is more like 118...  Trust me, I build/race turbo motors, and we can get 20psi of boost on a 347 ford on the dyno with this stuff..:D 99% of the time we run C-16 on the dyno, But we have tryed it and it really works....
I have a bottom 10sec Buick grandnational that is my everyday driver. It lives on this stuff.:devil I can run 25+psi of boost on the street with no knock..;)

it actually is!!! my good friend works at the Honda shop so he buys it with his discount and me, him and another guy split the cost 3 ways!!!! My cost is about $55 for over 18 gallons. Thats not bad!!!

Sounds like your friends got the better end of the deal since TC has had your engine for over 6 months.

stock tires, you need to do a compression test.

if your over 190 you should mix it 50/50 with c-12(108 octane)

where can you get C-12 and who makes it?
