ok i must be the only one on here with a stock 300ex. everyone has a FST 300kit! what is required to get one of those and put it in? do you have to take anything to a machine shop? what kind of gas? all that stuff.

I did mine when the 400ex first came out to keep up with the 400ex's. Now days, I wouldn't bother unless you race the sport class. Even then it would now be better to build a 250f hybrid. ;)


But whats involved?

It's much more than a bolt on kit. To do it right you need the head ported & polished. Oversized valves installed. The cylinder has to be bored out for an oversized sleeve. New cam. Hardened rockers if necessary. Occasionally the cases will need to be clearanced for the sleeve, also. You'll want an oil cooler.. full system pipe designed for a 330, carburation (400ex carb), etc...

To do it right, all said and done it will run between $1000-$1500.
