I have a 99 400ex. in the manual it states that the oil capacity is 2.3 quarts but i have read and everyone is sayin 1.95 quarts with a oil and filter change. Can someone please help me out on this.

Why does the manual say 2.3 then? is that the max?

lol, this sucks what year? i was thinkin maybe the newer ones with reverse would be less because that extra gear.. i dunno tho if i had a scanner id scan it

thats odd my friend has a 99 and i have an 02...we both put in 1.95. if its not enough just add oil untill its full.

ya true. its almost to the full mark when warmed up and i put 1.95 in when i changed it. ask ur buddy to look in his manual if hes got it and has time just to see what it says.. Thanks for your help tho

i put alittle more than 2 quarts of oil in my bike.

my 2000 owners manual also says 2.3 us qt

Mines a 2000 and it says 1.95 qts:confused:

me and my friend use the same manual cuz i do all the matinece on his bike:rolleyes: i always put in 1.95 and it is alway full.

while were on this subject i bought my 01 400ex a few days ago and it never came with an owners manual. i've owned bikes all my life but never a racing quad. correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure there has so be some sort of synthetic oil put into it so i'm gong with a 10-40 weight and i know where the drain is but do u fill it back up through the oil (cant think of the word right now) right below the oil cooler and its got the dipstick in it?

Hm, mine just says on #9 on the oil change section "Fill the oil tank with the recomended grade oil; approximatley 2.3 US qt (2.2L 1.9imp qt)
