View Full Version : Painting the toolbox on my truck....

I cleaned out the toolbox on my truck today and realized that the inside is turning all of my stuff black. My toolbox is made out of diamond plate, but I'm thinking of painting the inside in order to stop it from turning my stuff black and dirty. I've already unmounted it and washed out the inside, but I am not sure what would be a good thing to paint it with. Any ideas of what kind of paint will hold up well? I was thinking something like Rhino-Liner

I think a polyurethane coating like Rhino-Liner would be cool for something like a toolbox. Won't scratch or wear like paint will. There are some at home do-it-yourself bed lining kits out there that you could use, I'd check a local auto parts store.

Ya, Dupli-Color has a bedliner that comes in a spray can... can't beat that, lol. I was told because the tool box is aluminum that I'd have to use a Zinc based primer? No biggy.. I'm just looking forward to my stuff actually staying nice, lol. Nothing worse then opening your toolbox to see your brand new helmet turned black!

Thanks, there's a Line-X dealer down the street, will give them a call. I'm so worried about how long it will last though, it will only be on the inside... only things in there is my gear ;)

And for the record.. I am a chick, lol... so I'm allowed to use the deeppink thank you very much ;)

Most of these bedliners are guranteed the life of the truck, so I'm sure with it being on the inside of the toolbox, it will last you for as long as you use it.

I've been thinking about using it myself...but...Back to the topic. Rhino lining will last forever, and since it's inside...It'll last forever plus a year.

Do not use the BEd liner in a can that you brush on. That stuff is crap. Use the spray can kind. But if you can powder coat it:D

I didn't know you could even do this.

Just be sure to redrill your weep holes in the bottom, or any condensation will puddle up inside. Milldew is worse than grey. ;)

Well, I painted my toolbox today and I'll have to admit, it turned out 100 times better then I was thinking it would. I used the Dupli-Color Spray on Bedliner. It comes in a can just like regular spray paint and costs about $8 a can, I used about a can and a half. My digital camera sucks, so try to ignore the bad picture quality, I figured I would post a few pics so you all can see how it turned out :) The black part is the spray on bedliner :)
