I checked the valves on my 05 trx450r and the book says that the intake should be .006 and the exhaust should be .011. First off if your looking at the engine from the back which valve is the intake and which one is the exhaust. This is what mine are now.
front of engine

.007 .004

I know you have to shim them but how do I do that and what shims should I get. (man I really need a service manual)
Also what are the torque specs for the valve cover bolts?

The two vavles under the cam are the intake valves. The two under the forked roller rocker are the two exhaust valves. Intake valves have the bucket over valve spring and it's a little tricky to get the feeler guage under. Should be .006 and exhaust valves are .011 Make sure engine is at top dead center to check valves. Remember to check decompressor clearance too. Good luck.
