i just droped the cam it, i set the timing right, i just double checked that today, it didnt tick at all with the stocker in it, i adjusted the valves when i was done, i set them with a gap of 0.10 like the manual said but it sounds like a sewing machine

they do tend to tick pretty loud, check the cam chain tenser also, but i've thought that many times and the ticking sound is normal.

Aftermarket cams tend to tick.

i set my 300 on .006,most aftermarket cams for the 300 say set the lash on .004 i just like a little extra play. .10 is a tenth of an inch thats a huge gap

my bad, i ment .0010 i beleive that is what the manual says to set it at, this is the first time i have had to mess with the valve on a bike so im not sure what you mean by lash, is that just the clearance between the rockers and springs?

forgot to add this too, i can run the bike but it doesnt have much power at all, im assuming it because its running really lean after the cam, my 400ex carb is coming this week so im guessing that should help with the power

i'd set them at .004 and .005 for exhaust .001 seems pretty tight

i think something else might be my problem, i cranked it over with a wrench by hand and when the valves open it sounds like they are just barely cliping the piston, it sounds like a little ping when they are fully open, do you think the timing is off? thats the only thing i can think of, when i lined it up at TDC there was more than one mark to line up, there were to differant TDC marks on the crank about an inch apart from each other and then another set of 2 lines, i lined it up with one of the TDC marks, does it make a differance which one?

ok there should be a little mark on the cam that you can line on both of the sides of the head, then the other mark should be facing straight up and make sure you have the cam lobes facing down, with the flywheel on the T mark. the cam should look like this - ^ - the arrow pointing up is just the line that will be facing up. hope this helps.

the marks on the flywheel your talking about are not the same, one has a T and one has an F.you should use the one with the T and look through the rocker covers camlobes should be facing down.if they are not you are on the exhaust stroke and you should rotate the flywheel around one more time.i would try reseting the valves to .006 and see if that helps,if they tick a little jump down to .004.

i lined up the cam with the lines and had the lobs down and all that stuff, i just tore the whole motor out today and im taking it to the local honda shop, i talked to the guy he said it would be about 40 bucks, for them to set it up all right as long as the motor was out so i figured what the hell 40 bucks isnt bad so im droping it off tommarow.
