i have a 14t. sproket now what will happen if i put a 13t. front sproket on? or is this not possible
please tell me

I believe the chain will rub against the small bolt that holds the front sprocket on.
Do they make a 13 tooth sprocket fer the 400 and if they do,,,you'll have soooo much torque that if ya put it in 1st gear and blip the throttle it will probably do a back flip,,,I'd stick with the 14,,,what type of riding do you do???

mostly trails and hills. i occasionally race it on the mx track for fun but mosty trails and hills. thanks for the help, the reason i asked is because i found a 13t. sproket from my brothers warrior and just wondered if it would work on my 400
I'd say probably not,,,if there's 2 holes in it for screws to go in it might but,,,,if I was a gamblin man,,I'd bet it won't work..

Well it's proabably a good thing,,,,cuz that thing would be all herky jerky with such a small front sprocket,,,,you probably could do a back flip if ya goosed it real hard..LOL
they do make 13's..i'm thinking of geting one when i get money
I think the lowest they go is a 14 tooth.

why get a 13? u would need a smaller chain, i am having trouble keeping my chain tight with my 14, what i would do if you wanted more torque is leave the 14t in the front and buy a 39t for the rear and it will be like having a 13/38 gearing but its really 14/39 with the same torque.

nuh uh! lol, 3 teeth up on the rear sproket equals droping a tooth on the front. to equal 13/38 gearing you would need 14/41, and then you mess with ground clearance. Try running 14/38 with 18" tires and see how ya like that!

I know this might be a litte nit-picky but I've seen a couple replies to this post about how if you dropped to a 13t you'd gain so much torque that it would be difficult to ride the bike. Gearing has nothing to do with torque. Gearing will dictate where that torque will be applied (whether it be on the bottom with a 14t or on the top with a 16t). Torque is a force that's produced by the motor, not by the gearing. So if you've got a motor that makes 30 ft\lbs. of torque it's only going to make 30ft\lbs. despite the gearing used.

Would'nt buying that small of sprocket for the front be harder on the engine? I ran a 14t up front and a 43t in the rear but did not like it. Even for trail riding..

Yea Guy660R is right the gearing has nothing to do with the torque but with a 13t on the front every last bit of the torque would go to the bottom end and then your 400 wouldn't have any top end. It would feel like you needed like a 7th gear aong with a 6th!!
Well that's the point I was making,,,excuse my terminology,,,the fact of the matter is a 13th front sprocket would need about 3 more gears<--------not refering to the foot pounds of torque created by the motor...:D you would not have any top end,,,way to much grunt..

ok..the stock 400 gear ratio is 2.53. the 14/38 gear ratio is 2.71 which is way to low end for most ppl's tastes. sprocket specialists make 13-15 for the front,35-42 for the rear...so say you want more low end then stock but not the 14/38 cause it's too low...13/35's gear ratio is 2.69..14/36 is 2.57...14/37 is 2.64..and 15/40 is 2.67...any one of these will work to give more bottom but not to much as the 14/38...i think i'm gonna run 14/36 or 14/37 when i get new sprockets..and as for the chain..if your gonna change sprockets change the chain too
