Replace your rings, or just get a new piston.

don't jump the gun on that just yet. may just be valve seals. take a compression test and see what it reads. if it has good compression i would just get new valve seals and start there.

Oh yes, forgot about that. I replaced my piston and it never smoked anymore. I would replace rings anyway though.

A ring set doesn't cost that much, I got my JE ring set for 20 bucks.

This question brings up something about my quad. Now before I get into i'll make it known right now my quad is only a few months ago, I bought it back in july. Now with that being said when im goofing around, doing donuts or what not a buddy of mine said he notices a good amount of smoke come out of my quad, he said its blue smoke, now it doesn't come out all the time cause i've sat on it in neutral and looked back while reving it and notice nothing. He said it could be cause I haven't changed the oil since I bought it, could that be it? I'd be pissed at myself if I ruin it somehow since I just got it.

Mine did the same thing. It only smoked when I was running it hard. I had to replace the rings and valve seals in mine. But then again, it was stollen for six months, so there's no telling what they did to it. How many hours does it have?

so what do you need to change, cause when i rev mine up at high rpms, when i let out of it it smokes bluish white

id say start with the valve seals should only take an hour or so to do the give it a run and see if it still smokes if it does then youll know itll be the rings but you might as well start with something that you can get right to and get done quick and give it a run thats what i did and mines fine now

just so you know it is possible to change valve seals WITHOUT removing the head... its not as easy - but its doable.

2005 and he needs rings, why would he need anything? My 2000 doesn't smoke and its the original piston that has been run hard. Maybe he is running a little rich, but thats usually a dark smoke.

Bluish white smoke is oil burning.

do not dismiss the fact that these engines can burn oil, they are air cooled after all.

They can--but they shouldn't. If it's burning oil then something is worn out or not sealing like it should. I might forgive a 2 ringer slipper piston in a high strung engine for consuming a tad bit of oil, but an EX should not burn any if everything is up to snuff.

Will smoke come out of the exhaust if your lean?

No. Leaness doesn't directly cause any smoking.

But you can damage an engine because of running lean. That could cause smoking. But then it's smoking from the damage--not directly from an lean air/fuel mixture.

When your lean, does your carb let alot of air in, and not enough fuel or vice versa?

GPracer2500

lean is too little fuel for the amount of air

if your exhaust seals are bad whne you start it up in the morning will it smoke real bad for a minute until it burns off the oil. Thats what mine does then it goes away the rest of the day.

ok, mine is a little dark colored smoke, but how is mine running rich when i have the stock jetting and needle and fuel mixture screw 2 turns out with full hmf pipe, uni filter, it should be running lean.
