Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been asked here or not but I'm really trying to find a GREAT dune machine. I've only ever had a 416ex but want more power.

Trying to get a general consensus from you guys on which one you think is a better duning machine and why. Does the CRF or YZ have a smoother powerband and torque curve. I don't really like the "lightswitch" powerband. Either on or off but rather a gradual increase in power. Let me know your feelings.

I'm looking for overall reliability and maintanance issues as well.

This is going to be a tough decision for me since I've never had the chance to actually ride either in the dunes.

Thanks

Glamis

hybrids are best used for mx machines. other than that id go with a yzf. i know ppl will say that the crf is more relyable but i know 2 ppl that will agree with me and both have had numberous hybrids. and one has a racing company

I actually own a crf hybrid, and most of its riding is done at glamis. I love my hybrid. Its the crf motor, with custom axis all around. it has a no link swingarm and long travel frontend. It dunes excellent. And with all of the suspension travel, there isnt a jump or a whoop I cant fly over. As far as motor. the powerband and torque is smooth and perfect. The only real complaint is the tall first gear. I have just geared it down enough so that it doesnt matter. It also just keeps pulling, and reving to the moon. Its definitely not tempermental like a 2 stroke. It seems always in the powerband. Hope this info helps.

Yes, your info hepls a bunch. You ride the same areas I do. I have already made up my mind ...it's gonna be a CFR.

You wont be disappointed. If you have any questions, let me know. My bike is a houser aftermarket frame, so there wasnt that much modification. My brother has a 400ex frame that he said has already been cut and gusseted for the crf that he might be willing to get rid of. It still needs a good PC but looked good when I saw it. If I ever blow my motor to bits, I'll probably go with the 06 or 07 CRF450X motor... it has electric start:D
