cam chain tensioner

i have a loud slapping clicking noise coming from my motor, i know its not the valves because i just set them, could it be the cam chain. i dont have any major motor mods, just a slip on muffler. its an 03 400 ex, didnt know if i should buy a new heavy duty chain or if the tensioner goes bad and you can just buy one of those or if you have to do the chain and tensioner, any help would be appreciated.

you can buy the chain and tensioner separately. however, if i had to change the tensioner i would change the chain as well. are you sure the valves were adjusted correctly? was the motor on TDC of the compression stroke?

yea, it was tdc, i dont know what else to do, i ordered the tensioner and if that doesnt fix it i guess i will put in a new chain, if you know where to get a crf 450 or aftermarket one could you let me know, thanks for your input.
