What is a really good exhaust for my 2000 400ex. I've been told

the sparks and lrd are really good. I'm putting a JE

440 big bore kit in it with a stage 2 hotcam. Should I put a hotrod

crankshaft in it? Or is my stock one good for now? Should I put

HD valve springs in it and do I need the shim kit? What all should

I do to my 400. It's my first time, so I need all the help I can get!!!

Let me know what you have done to your bike too.
Thanx

Ive got a 11:1 piston
Stage 1 hotcam
Standard Valves + Springs
CT racing exhaust, full system

The stock rod is fine Ive got a Pro X rod but only because the guy i bought it of let the oil run low and the rod got worn out.

Mines a 450 eater
None of the 450's i ride with are stock.

Hope that helped

not to hyjack the thread but how do you tell if the crank is worn? Im about to do a 416 kit in my 03 400ex and was wondering.

The little end pin that holds the piston to the rod had movement on mine. It should slide in and out nice and smooth but when it is in if it has any movement at all thats baaaad. It should be a nice firm hold.
It is easy to check when you have your piston off just slide the pin in and see if you can move it around other than side to sideways.
Just remember that the tiniest bit of movement there will get exagerated alot at the skirt of the piston and you dont want your piston movin any way but up and down.

Hope that helps

MY 03 440EX WITHH CAM EDELBROCK CARB AND DUNCAN FATBOY EXHAUST IS REALLY LOUD AND RESPONSIVE WITH THE FATBOY4. INFACT ME AND ABOUT 6 OF MY BUDDIES AGREE THAT ITS THE LOUDEST THING WEVE HEARD NEXT TO HARLEY AND CARS AN WHATNOT. IM SURE THE NEIGHBORHOOD AGREES TOO

I COULDNT COMPARE IT TO OTHER PIPES BECAUSE THE PIPES WERE ON WHEN I GOT IT.

AS FAR AS YOUR 440 KIT IF YOU WANT SROKER CRNK YOU HAVE TO USE STROKER PISTON AND THAS GONNA BE A 460/465 KIT.

THAT WHAT IM GOONA DO OVER THE WINTER ALONG WITH NITROUS AND ABOUT 5000 BUCKS IN OTHER AFTERMARKET PARTS

Will the stock connecting rod and crank hold up to the 440 kit?

MY 89MM 440 KIT APPEARS TO BE CONNECTED TO STOCK CRANK AND ARM

BESIDES THERE SUPPOSE TO BE BOLD ON PRETTY MUCH EXCEPT THE BORING YOU REQUIRE

You didn't mention anything about what compression piston you are choosing. That's an important choice.

I would not build a 440 without heavy duty head studs.

Because of head gaskets blowing?
