I would like any advice and insight on this truck I am thinking of buying.

It is a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. The truck has 12,400 miles on it. It has the 6.0 V8. Comes with trailer towing package, and trailer brake controller. This truck is black, with chrome accents along rocker panels, it looks great! And it already has a Steelers sticker in the back window! :D I think I can pick it up for about 20k. Any known problems with this year and model truck?

Thanks for any help!

dont know too much about them...but a guy i work with has an 05 2500. he hauls all of his tools in it (trim and kitchen installer) as well as hauling light machinery that he owns. they are a snotty, well-handling truck. pull about as good as possible for a gas job.

go to www.fullsizechevy.com and ask the same question there.

Those trucks are great IMO. The 6.0 is an awesome motor and that sounds like a great price.

I have an 03 GMC just like that and have never had any problems. I pull an 8x20 enclosed trailer with it and as long as you stay on fairly flat ground, it drags that around with no problem. Oh, and get used to stopping at the gas station.... Gas mileage is not a strong point.....

Dammit Jerry, it's not Pink! It's rasberry!! :p

And no prob on the gas mileage... My 93 chevy with a 350 gets about 10-12mpg...

Thanks for the input, maybe pinky... I mean rasberry truck will be replaced soon... ;)

the 6.0's are great moors and can aget a little better gas nileage then the 350's if you drive em right. A ton of power and drives eally well for being that big of a truck. IMo i'd say go for it, it sounds liek a great price

I had an 01 with the same set-up and it was a great truck I shoulda kept it LOL. I average 75-80 and got 11.5 MPG but that truck would pull almost anything. you will be happy with it.

Only reason I got rid of it was I wanted a crew cab with the duramax in it.

a 2003 with only 11k miles on it... thats a little suspect... i would research into that a little... you know you can simply switch out the clusters and that is what records the miles... i would really look into signs of it being used more than that..

I could see a 2003 with that low of miles. I've seen lower than that on older trucks. Some people just drive not as much as others. From what I know, it has no major problems so it sounds like a good deal.

Like that? but without the D-max engine?

I love that truck, has all the options but leather seats.

Gets 16-18mpg in the city, and 20-25 highway, more power than I know what to do with.

My friend has a 04 bought it brand new. It was a nice truck. Quad cab. The only problem he had was some kinda sensor went out. He could still drive it but the Engine light was on:ermm: GM fixed it and he was on his way. He beat on it pretty bad too. Loaded up 8 quads on a trailer and went to michigan. I think it got 13MPH give or take a few. Great ride quality. Alot better then my friends Dodge. I think it was even better then my ranger lol. He sold it with 20k on it.

Yep, that's it. ;) Black, 4x4 with tube runnning boards ... And to the guy that brought up the low miles; I had the same thoughts. But I looked the truck over, it looks barely used. When I stopped a couple weeks ago just to browse, I talked to a kid working in service at this garage. He said the owner of the truck is good friends' with the owner of the car lot. I guess the truck was purchased for the guy's business, and the business isn't doing so well... so he is selling the truck on consignment. There also is 2 years left on an extended warranty...

Thanks everyone for the info! And Jerry... I KNEW you'd like the color of this truck, as you'll blend in standing beside it! :D

My Dad has a 2000 Silverado 2500 non-HD (it was before the HDs were out) and it has the 6.0 Liter. Its been a really good truck and has done really well towing our RV. The LS1 based engines such as the 6.0 Liter are known to use some oil, I think it's because the piston rings don't form that great of a seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. Overall, really good engines and really good trucks. There have been a few minor issues that were fixed due to recalls, so you may wanna check those out.

the 6.0l is a strong motor but it really uses the gas. mine got 10 if i was lucky and got as low as 5-6 towing anything with weight. granted i had 35 inch tires but still. i will not buy anything but a deisel now after having one. 20mpg towing still.

my 01 was the most comfortable truck i had ever driven. period. i wish i could have just put a duramax in my old truck and kept it. i loved it.

just get one of those CC's that pay back a percentage. you'll need it.

I have a 2000 gmc 2500 non HD with the 6.0 and the 4l80e tranny. With so few miles on it the pistons don't have the carbon build up yet. It is a known factor that these motors build up carbon on top of the pistons making them "ping" or "knock" when you first start them up in cold weather.

I just turned over 132,000 and haven't had any problems as of yet. The motor is strong, it pulls all our trailers better than my dad's 93 crewcab dually 454.

Around town with a heavy foot I get 14 mpg, and on the highway, or if I baby it I can easily get 16+ mpg.

There is also tons of potential with this engine if you so choose since it utilizes a Gen III block (same as LS1). Like someone else suggested www.fullsizechevy.com is great resource. other ones to check out are www.performancetrucks.net www.GM-Trucks.com www.gmfullsize.com

I say go for it. Sounds like a good deal and it's an awesome truck, you won't be disappointed. I know I loved my dad's work truck which was the same thing except for a 2005, now MNDOT switched over to Ford and he hates everything about that truck.

They are nice trucks but you may want to buy some aftermarket shocks for it. They tend to "bob" in the front end on certain roads. It gets very annoying after a while. Otherwise it sounds like a good deal.

I am a died in the wool Ford fan, and want a Super Duty someday, and have owned 4 consecutive Rangers that treated me very well, but the 2500 he got is really nice. My 4.0 Ranger w/ 4.10's runs really good, but his 6.0 pulls past me pretty easily when trailering up hills. Sharp ride indeed!!!!

At least I don't have a complex about showing up for a ride with him now that he got rid of the PINK truck....He used to get asked if he borrowed his wife's truck, and people would ask me if it was safe to change clothes after riding when he was around...... :p ;) J/K Ltrider!;)

Crazy Honda just got a 318ci Dakota...Watch out!

I just recently picked up a 2003 GMC 2500HD. It runs good. No problems. The only thing I dont like is when you first start it up you here a ticking sound from the engine for the first couple min. Other than that it runs awsome.
