Here is my new ride these days - we just finished it last week, and I got to race it at the Rhino Nationals.....too fun!!!! It's a blast - works really well - I have to get the rear shocks reworked, but other than that it's a real kick in the pants to drive!!! :)

Well...wait...I can't get pics to load up.....hold on...

Motor is from a 2001 CBR 600 F4i......I bought the suspension from So Cal Fab in California (thanks Thad!). Wheels are OMF (thanks BONES!) and tires are ITP TerraCross (Thanks RON!). We bought a 450 Rhino because we were doing the engine swap - so we got the cheaper Rhino and sold that engine on Ebay. We took out the diffs and everything and Jason (my hubby) fabbed it all up to make it all fit and work really well. We designed it all ourselves and made our own cage from chromoly. We made this out of our garage - working on it a few hours at a time every night, almost until it was done. Axles are Gorilla Axles - and it's cool because we only needed two! :) It's rear wheel drive, and it's a 6 speed with electric reverse (my hubby fabbed up a reverse for me on a jackshaft using a starter motor). I have only had it up to middle of 3rd gear, but I think I was probably hitting 50 mph or so......it's got alot more to go....I've only driven it this past weekend, for one practice and one race....I need to get some seat time in it! :)

Looks sooooooo fun. I want a rhino so bad. :(

I guess I'll just come over and pick up your quad, since you won't be needing it anymore.... :blah:

Hey Corry, are you not riding quads at all anymore?

Racing the Rhino at WORCS Round 1 next season?:D

I am not racing MX anymore......I'll be racing this on the MX tracks now.......I've had this feeling for a while that my good luck was going to run out soon, as far as racing and no serious injuries in 5 years......and I figured I needed to get out while I was still healthy and in one piece. I can always ride/race another day, down the line.......in the meantime, ripping it up with a 5-point harness, chromoly rollcage and 100hp is going to suit me just fine!

We have some video...it's pretty far away, but when I get on the straights you can totally hear me......I hit the rev limiter once or twice....I had never driven it before, so you know....took a little getting used to! :) On this video, I hadn't even learned how to start it in first gear - had to start slow so I didn't stall it.......then you can hear me later on in it when I come around to the front straight.......also, my rear shocks were terrible....the rebound was way too fast and my butt kept bouncing up in the air off of every jump! Check out the two rhinos in the 2nd corner that flip - top right side of the screen - at the start.....and please ignore that I didn't know where I was supposed to go after the heat race! LOL!! I guess getting past the checkers was a good start! I get the whole MX thing....this rhino stuff is all new!

Is there any sites on the net that you can learn about putting a bike engine into a rhino? Just curious how it is done.

thats sick

i should put one in my ranger

I had that sticker made special....lol!! We always say "that ***'ll buff out" anytime something major breaks...so it was just funny.

We used the stock brake system, I bought a rear rotor from an R6 and we used the stock caliper - we had to fabricate the mount to mount the caliper on the drive shaft, though. Not hard. We are also using the stock front calipers.....we just had to relocate the stock master cylinder when we moved over the whole pedal assembly and added a clutch.

There are not sites anywhere that i know of about how to do this engine swap. My husband is like McGuiver....he can build anything. He figured out the whole thing......BUT....we will have a TON of pics on our site sometime soon, going over the whole build, pretty much. Might help a little....

We are still working out some bugs....like getting a strong enough chain tensioner.....and I need to buy a battery strictly for my reverse gear - that will make it stronger and last longer.

Awesome I can't wait to see the build. I could have the chance to buy a wrecked/blown up rhino. Next winter I need a project. So this might be something I want to do.

are there any artic cat prowlers in that class? Just wonder if they are competitive.

400grl
10-09-2006, 01:03 PM
I think there was a Prowler at the last Whiplash race......I'm sure they would do just fine out there!! :) They are welcome, as far as I know - so are the Rangers....it's just a matter of people modifying them enough to be allowed to race. It's a UTV class, so I would think any UTV would be allowed to participate as long as the safety stuff was on them....

firefighterjosh
10-10-2006, 11:02 PM
Rhino's are deffently the better of all the UTVs. Now the new prowler is out I here that is suppose to kick some booty.

400grl - How long did it take to create this beast?

400grl
10-10-2006, 11:52 PM
We started it in June....then worked on it a few hours in the evenings after work until it was done, which was a few weeks ago......hard to do it that way - would be way easier to just have the time to do it all day long until it's done!

firefighterjosh
10-10-2006, 11:59 PM
I know how that is....its hard to stop working on something once you start for the day.

Plus it is hard to wait for it to be done when you are creating something that cool!!!

Thats the coolest type of racing i ever seen!! great job on the Rino, i can't wait to get a couple years of MX racing on the quad and then hopefully there will be UTV racing up here

I want one!!!
