Well I heard alot of 06's were locking up, and mechanical stuff was going wrong, but didnt know the 07's were to. My friend has only had his 07 for a month and it is already locked up. He has maybe rode it 4 times. Has anyone else had this problem with the 07's?

Yes im sure he had enough oil and the right gas. He is a Honda mechanic and takes very good care of his toys. Ive heard alot of stories about the 06' and 07' Honda's having lots of motor troubles, then this happens to my buddy, kinda makes me think twice about getting one.... I dont want this to happen to me.

Ive had my 07 since July and racing it every weekend with no problems.

I have had my 06 for quite sometime now, and it has held up great through all of my abuse. I haven't really heard much about the 06 engines locking up... mostly the 05's. Can't say I have have had trouble there either though.... and I haven't been so easy with it.

WHAT motor problem have you heard of?

the only thing i can think of is people burning there starters out? i have a 05 yfz and a 06yfz and i can def say my 450r is much more reliable, comapred to all there problems. there my brothers bike. they alwasy ride my 450r. i barely heard of a stock new quad locking up.. something wasnt right there. warranty?

I havnt heard of the 06/07 lock ups either
(bearing failure on the 04/05)
biggest problem with 06/07 is starters and a hesitation when going from idle to w.o.t. quickly.

Name a 450 that is "locking up" less than the '06 and '07 Honda 450r's.

'06's and '07's are the same as far as anything important.

You say his bike "locked up", can you let us know what that issue really was when you find out and did he have a stock air box and intake?

Did he break it in properly? Or did he just go beat the piss out of it?

it's probably a trans issue i have seen more 06's go then 04 05 combined and it's always the trans. alot of them go in less then a few hours also, so this is probably what it is

I have already rebuilt an 07 SE 450R that locked up (almost). The oil drain plug fell out on the "Trails Heaven" at Hatfield McCoy....

now, with a little magic, he is actually better than before... :D

Yes I will let you guys know what went wrong after the dealer diagnosis it. And yes the bike was bone stock. Im not saying that it is a known defect for the 06's and 07's to lock up, im just saying ive heard of more then 1 case, and this is one of them.

but that isnt from just anything internal, just from a lack of oil cuz the drain came out, probably the dealer messing with it or something.

true not internal mechanical failure like bearings and whatnot just failure to tighten the drain plug on oil change.. it was a mess inside after the catastropic failure...

oh yes.... the intake side piston skirt had worn through the NiCaSil coating of the cylinder down to the aluminum and the fragments were all over the place. rod base wore too so new crank, cylinder, piston all cause of losss of drain plug....

doh! bet he wishes he double clicked.

for me I think they just dont no how to ride because I ride mine hard in the sand and I had np yet with 06 450er and I mean I spank any bike and still have nps and I just dont understand why you people have so many problems and I have't YET had nothing wrong with my starter and even when it is hot it starts right up so yea nps here

Your fuel is no doubt a little different from ours--but not as much as those figures would suggest. You guys use RON for octane rating (as does most of the world) but we use (MON + RON)/2 in the US and Canada. RON will always be a higher number than both MON and R+M/2 for the same fuel.

~10 point spreads are typical between MON and RON. If that holds for your fuel than your available octane ratings are very close to ours.

Hey Floodie, No offense meant, but how come everytime someone has a problem w/their "R", you immediately say they, "dont know how to ride" ...whats up w/that?

lumi
10-04-2006, 11:51 AM
some pictures would help to determine what the problems were, maybe the 07 got a curse of some crank bearings going bad. ;)

its usually not the way you ride, except if u rev it to the moon all day, but the way you maintain your quad that leads to premautre wear and breakdown in engines.

you no why I say that because its called the people that usually have problems it the person that dont no how to ride or lack of responsiblity of taking care of your machine and yes that it what it is lack of taking care of the quad and checkign everything right before you ride

Most of the time, but not ALWAYS... we had a quad and no matter what you done to it,it ran like crap and always broke down. The only time it ran good was when we personally worked on it ourselves..:p

Ive read ALOT on Yami and Honda 450's motors seizing, but as a rule of thumb doing your routine maintence will DEF. be a plus!
