Just installed my 12 tooth sprocket and now im tryin to put the chain on, but i cant get it tight. I adjusted the tightner and it just doesnt move far enough for me to get the chain to where it needs to be. If I put it where it is at right now it is way to loose, but if i try to get it to where it should be in specs it will not go on the rear sprocket. Any ideas?

Ok so you are saying you chain is too long now???

Take a link out if it is too long.

I think I may have read it wrong:confused:

if i take one out its to short, if ileave one in its to long. when i move the tension it doesnt make a difference.

your inbetween links. Either get a new chain and try again, or go back to the 13. I think you will acually have problems with the 12 because the chain will hit the swingarm??? I think....

only if your using a non o ring or X ring change they have half links.

how much should i be able to move the chain tensioner? cause i only get like an 1/8th of a turn out of it and that just doesnt seem right.

it turns alot. Try to see if it turns forward first. if it doesnt, and you pull it back and still cant get any tighter on the chain, you need a new chain.

i mean there is no chain on it at all and i cant move the tension setting more than an 1/8th of an inch

I had the same problem when i put my 13/36 on my 300ex and I had to use a half link till the chain stretched some.

Why would the chain hit the swingarm? The chain is in a straight line.

yeah but with a smaller sprocket the chain is lowered down some. I dont know if it will hit, I am just stating that it might. I have never heard of any one wanted to run 12/38 gearing on a 300ex. I acually think that the 13/38 is perfect already.

If you was running 22in tires and you went to the dunes. Dropping to the 12 would be a good choice.

yea thats the point of dropping down to the 12 tooth. Now how much should I be able to move the adjuster???

alright I finally got it to move. I had to take a tire lever and pull back really hard, i think there was a lot of build up from the guy who had it before. no need for a half link

I would use big channel locks to turn your carrier. If its stock. You'll bust it up using a tire lever.

if you slip using channel locks it will bust it up. the tire lever worked great, for both my 300 and 250x.
