I have an old Honda 200 threewheeler that we restored kinda but we cant get it to start. We replaced the CDI and im pretty sure all the wires are hooked up right. We also found oil in the magneto. Could that be the problem? What are the most common thing that cause it not to spark.

My dad got it off his friend for 200 and we didnt even start it, we just tore it apart and restored it but didnt mess with the engine.

Right now, I am having the same problem with my brothers warrior. No spark. I check the coil with an OM meter and their was nothing going out to the plug. I also hot checked it by putting a wire on the coil side that power goes to, then hook it to another source of hot power to see if the thing would spark but nothing. What ever you do don't straight hot the wire to the positive side of the battery. You can try that.

I've got an old ATC200ES (83) service manual kicking around somwhere at my parents house, I'll see if I can dig it up Sunday..

I'm fairly certain that all the older trikes with 200's had virtually an identical engine (with the exception of the 200X)..

Leo,

Ya i think all the 200's are pretty much the same. I have some kind of manual but it hasnt helped me any.

Kuz400ex,
Thanks but i already tried all that and i got nothing also.

Does anyone know if oil is suppose to be in the Magneto? A couple people have told me it could be the mag.

Thanks,

Check all the kill switch wireing, that can cause no spark. but i suggest you get a new spark plug for that model from your local honda dealer, choke it, than try starting it giving little gas.

MAKE SURE ALL THE WIREING IS NOT LOOSE, AND THE CONNECTIONS ARE ALL TIGHT. oil in the magneto shouldnt be the problem.

Check the cap that goes on top of the spark plug, make sure it is in good shape, and making full connection to the plug.

Ok, thanks Quad fixer, i'll try all that. If not than i will see about putting a dirtbike motor in it.

Yea make sure your points have the correct gap, I had a old dirtbike that had basically the same engine in it as that, and we had a few problems as far as starting ( one time it wouldnt kick start because the cam sprocket wasnt aligned with the chain or something. Its fun working on those, my friend gave me his engine motor to the same trike to change the piston (rings) because it has crazy smoke. haha fun

anyway gl
