axle wiggles on 300ex

i was just wondering if it was fine if the axle wiggles a tad i noticed this when i was installing my new chain and sprocketts when it was jacked up off the ground

It could be worn axle bearings or swingarm pivot bearings could be shot,either one can make the chain come off and bust the cases.;)

If the axle itself has play, it's most likely the carrier bearings. Should be easy to replace if its like most other bikes.

If the whole swingarm has play, its probably the pivot bearings....again, pretty easy to replace.

Before ripping into anyhting.. make sure the axle nut is tightened down properly. If slightly loose the 300ex axle will wiggle a small amount. The 300ex axle nut is notorious for backing itself off. That's why "anti-fade" locknuts are so popular.
