Do I have to do anything else (remove old, install new) to install a 14T front sprocket on my 2005?

Yup. Pretty simple. Loosen the chain, take off the case saver and shift lever to gain access to the sprocket, undo the two sprocket bolts and pull it off. Reverse the process to install the new one but make sure to tighten the chain! It's going to be really loose with a smaller sprocket on it.

sounds right to me, except the part about taking off the shift lever....there is no need to take it off in the first place! just a waste of time to take it off and put it back on, considering the shifter isn't even in the way of the sprocket.....

I didn't say that it was in the way but it just helps make some room to work with the other bolts. Besides, how hard is it to take off the shift lever? It's one bolt and takes all of 15 seconds.

You won't notice any lost topend, but you will notice a major amount of torque, and easier start in 2nd gear (for drags). Not sure why you don't notice the lost topend though, I never noticed it.

You probably won't notice anything.

Look for 4 allan screw in the back of the swingarm, loosen them (don't take them out) once they are all loose get some channel locks and inbetween the rear sprocket and swinger theres a round thing (forgot the name) but it has 3 notches on it, pull it backwards to tighten the chain. Make sure someone is sitting on it while it's getting tightenend because wehn you sit on it it gets tighter. Ill try to find a picture.

Look around there, you can see Two of the allen bolts, and right next to the sprocket you see this thingy ( still can't think of the name)

is the 13t a bad idea on the 05 400ex? for easier wheeling for tricks and stuff with the extra torque i was thinkin about gettin one and switch when i went reg. riding?

Depends on how much torque you want, you will have alot of torque with a 13t. If you don't want to drop a tooth in the front, raise 2 in the rear, it's almost the same as 1 down in the front, 3 up in the back = 1 down in the front.

you could change it and wheelie bettter and not even have to consider switching it back
