Will a 88 R rear shock fit on a 86R?

I am just wondering if my 88 R rear stock shock will fit on a 86 R? I am just checking this out before i sell a dood my shock.

Yes, Im about 99% shure it will. As long as its not a cr swingarm. An R shock won't fit on an EX for sure

i dont think it will fit, i think the 86 shock is longer then the 88.
i know if you keep the linkage together it will work for any year...... like 86 shock and link will fit 87 88 89 and 89 shock and link will fit 86 87 88. at leaste thats what i was told by pep.

The 86 and 87 rear shocks are 1 3/4 in longer than the 88 and 89 shocks. The wish bones are the same for all years but the bog donbe struts are different lengths. If you want to put a 88 on a 86 frame you must also change the swingarm. The shock mount in the back is also different locations because of the lengths of the different parts. People have done it but you have to play around with the different parts and the ride heoght will not be correct.

Yea, the motor swingarm mounts are different on the year models.
the frame year doesnt matter, ya just gotta have the same year model swingarm and motor to bolt straight up

I never though there was much different in the rear end beside the swingarms.
