i drive a 1998 dakota 5.9L V8. i was wondering what is the best bang for the buck in performance parts besides exhaust, intake, chip, ect... i was also wondering if a supercharger is really worth the $2500. i want my truck to have aout 400 horsepower, it has 245 horsepower right now please help, Jake.

The most horsepower for your dollar IMHO on almost any motor will be a supercharger (or turbo) hands down.

better upgrade injectors, fuel pump and head gaskets while your at it...you can only run about 8lbs of boost max on the stock motor.

the supercharger im looking at has 6psi

good cam, 1.6RR's, headers, high flow cats, intake (not sure on dakotas but i know on rams a regular open element say a 14x4 works as good as any aftermarket kit, just throw it on the throttle body), get your computer reflashed, good injectors, good heads, mopar m-1 intake... that should give you a good bit more gettup...


my buddy has a ram with a 360 with a M-1, 14x4 open element, 1.6RR's, Gibson headers with dual 3" straights, and a reflashed computer and with stock 3.55's can boil his 38's all day long, and has plenty of power when you hit the stupid pedal...

if u want 400 hp u better have some money. supercharger, injectors, headers exhaust, cam, nitrous if u wanna make it easier, id say transmission too, or atleast tranny cooler, or if its stick a clutch would be a definetly. if u were serious about this id just say buy a crate engine with 400 hp and drop it in. the price would probaly be close to the same
