I have noticed recently that my 450r is catching a lot of false neutrals, mainly between 2nd and 3rd gear. The clutch fibers are still in good shape, and the clutch is not slipping, but I did notice that the spacers behind the clutch basket are starting to get some play in them. So, is this the reason that I am catching false neutrals, or are there other problems? My dad tried to tell me that its just my foot bumping the shifter, but I know it is not that. I read in the report for the Pont De Vaux that Andy Laz's bike started catching false neutrals, and soon after 2nd and 3rd gear went out, and that is what is scaring me. So what is going on?

I get em all the time too. between 3rd and 4th . Characteristic of the motor I guess. I know alot of other ones that do it too.

Mine does it every once in a while. What gear oil do you use? I know once I switched to 80w honda oil, it definitely happened less.

Mine does it between 1st and 2nd. So the thicker tranny oil just helped some or it stopped it from happening?

a slightly thicker oil will help the problem.

atp engines has a fix for the tranny proplem.

it gets worse with time.

Are you sure its not the real neutral your hitting? haha, does it fall into gear if you let off the gas?

Mine fell out of 3rd a few times when it was brand new.
I would go from 2nd to 3rd and a sec later it felt like it dropped back into 2nd.

I haven't had that happen in a while though, it only seemed to do it when I was running it hard too.

I am using a Silkolene semi-synthetic tranny oil, and I am not actually catching neutral, it happens when im on the gas and i will have to let off of the gas and shift back into the gear that I was just in, plus it usually happens after i shift up into 3rd gear, so i'm not even near neutral.

i can' t get my 450r to go into reverse, i turn the knob and the quad just dies. :macho

j/k i get neutral blobs too when drag racing, my prob is the shifter position and it's too long...i flip my posts on my dc racer nerfs and i sit alot lower and the shifter feels alot better, more positive shifts, maybe your not getting all the wya into gear like me ?

I also used to have the problem of not being able to catch neutral, but lately it has been going into neutral easier, but it is still kinda hard sometimes.

my shifter is at the best position that it can be at, if I go a notch lower its way too low for me to be able to shift; likewise if I go a notch higher its way too high.

well what I have notice that when I did it on my 400ex and now the 450ER they are both the same type of shifting but what I was thnking because some people having this problem is because you are not pushing up the shifter all the way or it could be when you shift you let up gas to much so it goes into neutral but I have not yet had this happened to my 450ER yet so yea

mine shifts great until 5th..............it will not go into 6th no matter how many times I shift. I havnt tried letting off the gas yet but im under the impression that it wont help.

I use to catch false neutrals between 2nd and 3rd gear too. I dont have this problem anymore since every gear and shaft in the tranny went right by the case.

Get your transmission inspected before its too late because they cost a lot of $$ to fix.
