300ex stuck in reverse

My 300ex is stuck in reverse. The linkage doesn't move either. We pull-started it, popped it up a couple gears and it found neutral, for a short time. The next time we tried to start it up, it showed the reverse light again. It will not turn over with it in reverse.

Before I tear it down, does anyone have any insight?

I wish I could help more, but all I can say is to try and persuade the linkage to move back down to see if it's in the linkage and not a bent fork or what it may be..
