Guys my buddy just bought this 400ex and it ran great for 2 weeks. Now there is a very loud grinding sound from just under the starter. At first we thought the starter gears were bad but they look good(even though it sometime spins without starting the motor), youd have to rock it to get it to start:confused:

Any help here? I know alittle about the insides but not alot.

the free wheel mechanisim probaly broke or came loose. It's the part that disengages the starter gear once the motor is running. Not exactly sure on the specifics of it though since I've never had to deal with that problem.

starter clutch behind the flywheel. pull the side case cover off the left side and throw an impact on the flywheel and a whole assembly comes off. take the piece off the back of the flywheel and you will be able to see how where your grinding is coming from. its about 150 bucks to replace.

found alot of metal inside the left case. I took the bolt that held the flywheel off and cant seem to get the flywheel to budge. I took a puller to it but it presses on the inner piece that seems to come out with the flywheel (Any help here please) im getting frustrated with it. All the metal inside looked to be from the bearing labeled #5 on the microfiches.
