would a 400ex cluth cable work on a 300ex?

not sure if this is where this should be or not but wanted to ask.
will a 400EX cluth Cable work on a 300ex? Mine is messed up and my buddy has one he said he sell me cheap, we think there driffrent but not sure. guess could take mine off and messure them up.
