I'm trying to replace the rear brake pads on my honda 300ex and can't get the piston compressed enough to fit the new pads over the rotor. This is my first attempt at this task so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for any advice!!

if you still have your e brake.you have to loosen the bolt in the rear of the caliper

you can take a C-clamp and put it on the piston and outside of the caliper and compress it. thats what i did

I had to change my rear brakes to i lossened up the footbrake and pulled it up and used a small screwdriver and carefully slipped the roter in between the pads

Thanks guys for all the input. Turns out the e brake was seized up and not allowing the piston to fully compress. Took it apart cleaned and lubed it all up and everything works great. Thanks for the help!

lose the ebrake...it will do that again and wear your pads out 10 times faster...took mine off the bike as soon as i dropped it off the truck. it went from the delaership floor to my truck to the garage and the e-brake came off...

Aye, it doesent even work anyway.

The 300ex has 2 possible scenarios.

E-Brake works and the pads wont fully release when let out.

or

E-brake doesnt work, and the pads release when let out.

I was never able to find a setting where the e-brake would work, and the brakes didn't drag at the same time.

I pulled it off, and added a blockoff plate. ;)

I've noticed that that's what most people do. It seems to work properly right now but that's what I'll probably end up doing. Thanks.
