at my girlfriends brothers house there were a bunch of baby snakes right next to his house. he didnt want them to get in so he was killing them. there were 2 left and i figured they wouldnt last outside since it was getting too cold i decided to bring them home. one of them wasnt doing good when i got it and it didnt make it but the other is doing fine. i think it looks like a baby black rat snake but im not sure. either that or a milk snake. can anybody identify it?

we brought it to an animal store and they said it was either a corn snake milk snake or a rat snake but it was too early to tell.

If it was a milk snake it will be red, yellow, white, and black in color, rat snakes are usually black or yellow, corn snakes look just like that, white mainly with red spots and black rings around them.

Corn snake. Completly harmless unless you are a mouse or small rat. At least once it gets bigger. Used to have several of them as pets.

If you have a lot of crickets and small grass hoppers around your house collect some and put them in the cage with it until its big enough to eat bigger foods. You can either put a little dish with water in with it or if its an aquarium keep a side of it misted down with water. During the winter though you can always drive to your nearest pet shop and buy crickets, they are pretty cheap so it wont hurt the wallet to bad.

hmmm they all do kinda look alike:p i guess i could be wrong, only time will tell i guess. I wouldnt worry about it not eating, it might still be adjusting to being in a new environment or just not hungry like you said. Im not sure how accurate this is but i think most snakes only eat like once a week, id contact the store and see what they say. Id just alwyas keep a couple crickets int there though just incase.

Reptiles.. damnit lol

See... snake's don't make bad pet's :)

Three-year-old Cambodian boy Oeun Sambat hugs his best friend, a 13.1 feet long female python named Chamreun or 'Lucky' in the village of Sit Tbow on May 18, 2003. Superstitious villagers in the impoverished southeast Asian nation are flocking to see the boy, who they believe has supernatural powers and was probably the son of a dragon in a former life.

Around here they don't really bite, my friend even caught one and kept it for a year or so. They will rattle, but they are definitely not aggressive in nature and most people just ignore them, or catch them and take them a little ways away. If they were more aggressive I think people would kill them but I have never once heard of anyone or any animal getting bitten and they keep the rodents down. Rodents are definitely a problem around here. Where there is a fat rattler there is one less rat:D

That is a timber rattle snake. We killed one about a month ago in Georgia near Augusta. It was six feet long. Don't taste too bad though.

DO not watch it eat, sometimes they are a little nervous and will not eat if you watch it, put it in a litle box with its meal, and then have a look see in about 10 mins, i think that is a corn snake.
