I was sitting aroud thinking about making a hybrid, and how much my engine sucks balzz, when I thought about putting a 250R engine in my 400. I looked on ebay, and theres hundreds of 250R, ATC engines. Anyways I was wondering if this hybrid would be less difficult than a different type of hybrid. Would the pivot bolts match up? I think this would be pretty sweet hybrid.

it will be just as hard as to put that motor in a 400ex than a crf or yzf if not harder. u have to have the pipe work in a 4 stroke frame. u might be able to get one custom made. personaly i would do a yz426f motor or a crf 450 motor. if u want a 2 stroke i say do it and make it work. id rather have a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke any day. im thinking about puting a cr250 motor in a 300ex frame but i have to finish my quadracer 250 first. no 250r's have pivot bolts u have to use the mount thats made for the motor to swingarm mount. u most likly have to shave the swingarm to line up the chain. sevice honda makes a trx250rr with a 400ex frame and cr250 motor that kicks foward.

So the swingarm just connects to the frame, by the motor mounts? Did I get that right, also, I was looking at the frame from service honda and it looks like the pipe would just fit right through it.

the 250r motor uses a mount to conect to the swing arm.

Allright thanks man, I think I'm going to go on ahead with this project. I think it will be really original. Im going to talk to service honda about the swing arm and subframe, and that mount too. Maybe if they have a good price on that motor I'll buy it to but 5 grand is crazy. Thanks tri valley.

service honda use's the cr250 motor that has a mount like ur 400ex motor. the cr and trx250r motors are totaly differnt. the cr motor will vibrate alot and the trx motor wont as much cuse its counter balanced. i would use the trx or atc motor cuse it is counter balanced. once u start the hybrid make a post. im glad i can help and if u need any more advise let me know.

i have a 2001 400ex with a 87 trx 250r motor in it. i got it from ebay for $1600. it had the chassis and wheels powder coated black. braided brake lines and new I RAZR tires all around. it has yellow plastic with a NSTYLE graphics kit

there is more room in the engine area then a 250r frame. he used a Bill's pipe for it and all he had to do was shorten the piece of the pipe that goes from the cylinder to the where the pipe does the u-turn. the rest fit great no modifying dont even melt the fenders.

he even used the 400ex motor mounts on the front he just switched sides. the one he had to make a 1/4 spacer for. he used a ESR air box eliminator kit for ease of biulding. the radiator fits good about where the oil tank goes. the guy was a machinist so it looks nice

it wheelies way to much out of corners with the stock swingarm on it. the only dumb thing on it was it had the stock handlerbars i hate those. protapers and a mounting are on the way from ebay.

yep thats it. how did you do that with Photoshop or something?

thats exactly how i got it off ebay for $1600. i did not add anything to it excapt taking off the dumb twist throttle.

see how it has a black Maiur stock 88 or 89 style hood on it. he cut the front fenders some to get it to fit rite one the front. it never has a headlite since he could not find one cheap on ebay. i just got one for it fopr $40 with red 88 hood and haedlight switch.

did you see the movies from the steep hill climb? it shot me crooked like that at the top i did not turn. it was fun:D
