What can I do to make our 2001 400ex to climb gravel pit hills better. we have it geared down a tooth, and it came with a uni airfilter, and it has good tires, but there is this one hill, that is a turn around, and I have to turn around about 40ft lower then everyone else cause if I get passed that point it looses all power....learned that the hard way:( . We do the hill in second gear, what mods will make it better for hill climbing

PS mitch091 owns the quad, he justs lets me ride it cause my bikes got stolen and I got nothing (were brothers)

when i looses all power, shift to first real quick. if u do it right u will be able to carry ur momentum up the hill. shift about 10 ft before u would normally turn around.

otherwise a good pipe and a cam will do wonders to keep the bike in the powerband

Go as fast as you can holding it wide open and as the quad looses power down shift.

A low-end pipe like HMF is good. Try going up in the back about 2 or 3 teeth you won't loose THAT much top.

First gear idea is no good, it just digs a hole:eek2:

whats a better pipe HMF, FMF powercore 4, or yoshi?

I prefer HMF out of those choices.

Tires make a huge difference too...My 400ex has a set of Maxxis Razrs on them which are great on trails and dirtroads, etc...but get them into real loose sand/gravel and they arent the best. My buddy has an LT230 with mudsharks and he actually gets up hills and loose gravel better than I do. Look into a pair of mudsharks, Id highly recommend them..or something similar.

i hear what ur saying about the razrs. but the mudsharks r really heavy which isn't good either. i would get like razr2s or another kind of performance tire witha $h!tload of tread. deeper lugs will help immencely

Go back to 20" tires and see how that is, you can always gear back up.
