I have a stock 05 400 EX (NO MODS) and am wondering what would be the best route to go to get over the whimpy a** accelleration and torque.

I do a lot of dune riding and I want more BALLS and torque.

Some serious input would be greatly appreciated. I wanna know what would be the best bang for the buck in getting this type performance and keep the cost as low as possible.

full exhaust, good filter and remove the lid, jet the carb, drop a tooth on the front sproket, rev box. Then theres always the motor mods.:D

Any recommendations on pipe,filter,and rev box?

yosh pipe will give u good bottom to mid range power. if u rn't worried about sound get the sparks. they r the best. get a k&n or uni filter, or u could try the new velocity filer kit....but those r expensive. and a dynatech rev box, from what i have heard, is pretty good for the money. u can get a sparks advance timing key for like $20. that will give u more bottom to midrange and increase ur throttle response.

take your gas cap off and roll a 450 under it...



but seriously, id go for the full exhaust K&N filter, 450 carb, and a cam... then go from there..

I think a slip-on would be a better bang for the buck. A stock motored 400ex doesn't really need a headpipe.

piston cam combo!!! is by far best power per dollar.

wiseco 11:1 stock bore piston -100 bucks
stage 3 hotcam - 120 bucks

and if you cand get a pipe the just cut your stock one gut it out weld it back together and go ridng. oh and if you dont rejet you might as well not even bother with any of it.

i run a similer setup to this and smoke piped 400s all day, but i have a k&n filter which arent pricy oh and drop tooth in the front that just makes her wheelie on command

I have a mild 416ex. JE piston, TC XC Cam, HMF Pull Exhaulst otherwise stock. I wasted every Stock 400 at the dunes I also beat a couple 450s on the drag strip.
