View Full Version : 2006 GNCC Series Round #11 - Unadilla - Preview & Live Race Coverage

New Berlin, NY - With the only three rounds of racing remaining the 2006 season, the series heads to New York to the famous Unadilla Valley Sport Center for Round 11, and just like when the ATVA Motocross National was held here in July, rain is in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, but racers arriving today were greeted to a beautiful day.

With rain on the way, there were plenty of tractors out in the fields today cutting silage.

The track this year is only 9 miles long, and it has a little bit of everything including sections of the Unadilla Motocross Track, which is criss-crossed several times each lap, but there isn't any real jumps besides an uphill series of small doubles, which are seriously worn from the motocross races.

Admin
09-22-2006, 09:24 PM
There is a few field sections that racers will twist and turn their way through, and the fall colors are really beginning to come out in New York for the first weekend of Fall.

Admin
09-22-2006, 09:29 PM
The majority of the track is in the woods, but unlike Yadkinville, there are plenty of multiple lane sections in the woods, which will provide plenty of passing opportunities, and I was really impressed with the track layout as it fairly tight and technical with a mixture of wide open high speed sections to keep it exciting.

Last year at this time, Bill Ballance made his return to racing after fracturing his leg in August, and even though he could barely walk, he still was able to secure a Podium finish and go on to win his sixth Championship.

This year Bill is chasing after a Barry Hawk record of seven Championships, and he heads into Unadilla with some momentum after winning Yadkinville two weeks ago, which extended his points lead over Chris Borich to 28 points in the Overall and 6 points in the Pro Class.

Before heading to Unadilla, Bill Ballance spent the past week at Rausch Creek in PA filming a Yamaha sponsored video, which will be released in the near future by Quad Magazine, so stayed tuned for more details as they become available.

Bill was also happy to pickup the all-new 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700 to use on his farm back home in Kentucky, and next week, I will release a full write-up on my first impression of the Yamaha Grizzly along with Bill’s initial impression of the Grizzly as well.

Dave Simmons made the switch from the Yamaha YFZ450 to the Yamaha Raptor 700 at Yadkinville, and he plans on sticking with the Raptor 700 for the remainder of the season and was really hoping for some rain with the unlimited amount of torque the Raptor seems to have compared to other sport ATVs.

Admin
09-22-2006, 10:13 PM
Ken Robey made the switch from Kawasaki to Arctic Cat in the WPSA Series, and he plans on finishing out the GNCC season on his bright orange Arctic Cat in the Utility Stock Class.

Admin
09-22-2006, 10:16 PM
Jeffrey Pickens and Angel Atwell must have some good chemistry because they both have been on fire this year with each of them turning heads this year, and Pickens won the Overall this past weekend at the OMA Round 8

Admin

Well, it is just past Midnight and it beginning to sprinkle rain, so it appears that it might be a wet one tomorrow, and with the Kawasaki Dealer Show going on this weekend, and the anticipated release of the KFX450R, I just couldn't help but wonder if we will see a trailer on Pro Row next year that looks real similiar to this one:cool:?????

Admin

Well it rained on and off all night and we received about 1/2 inch of rain, but the radar shows that the rain is beginning to move out, so hopefully the rest of the day will remain rain free, but for the morning race, it will be muddy for the first couple of laps. By the third lap, it should start drying out because the Unadilla sandy soil sucks up the moisture fairly well.

With almost no cellphone service at Unadilla, the pay phones at Unadilla received a steady stream of traffic this morning despite the rain.

Good luck everyone. It will be an exciting race and it is also interesting to see new major sponsors hitting our sport. I have a feeling there will be a few more added to the line up for next season!

My only complaint is that Bill doesnt need a Grizzly, the deer he shoots only require a Wolverine at best;) :D Good luck Bill, lets get #7:macho

I want to wish everyone good luck also! Extra special good luck to Verkade and Muzzerelli in the morning race. And for the afternoon I gotta say Go Johnson!! Oh and I can't forget Prey, ride-red, and Death will need all the support they can get!! Get some woods boys!!

To get cell service a Unidilla you have to drive north on rt 9 about a mile and stop next to the red barn on the right.

If you go west it's about 6 miles and south is about 20 to 30 miles.

Norwich has service, so we might see the results tonight.

They congratulated Ballance on his seventh straight series win on the podium and Chris Borich said he was now just hoping to hold on to the number 2 plate for the year. Borich had some kind of fuel issues. I thought they said he still finished fifth today but I'm not sure on that. Yokley is still sitting along side the track right now near checkpoint 2. I know it will happen, but technically he isn't the champ yet. Ballance had a 28 point lead going in, and with the win and Borich not getting a top 20, he now has a 58 point lead. But with 2 races and 60 points up for grab, he could still loose. But very very very unlikely tho.

I haven't talked with anyone else. If anyone has any more results or information on any of the racers post them up. If not, I'm sure Harlen will get them posted up this evening sometime.

why soooo long for results? riders should be on their way home by now????!

So long for results because Harlen has to drive home just like the riders too!! They'll all be posted by tomorrow.

Something put a hole in Borich's fuel line during the race, therefore he couldn't run too well. Track apparently was full of low-lying branches too.

Dutchman tomorrow should be sloppy since it's supposed to rain - not a state race so I wonder how many will turn out.

Pic Pro Race Start ... The track was awfull muddy for the moring race. Some of the swamp areas were almost impassable. I thought the course was much harder this year, the mud made it worse.

Hey, what a weekend it has been for the McGills. Not only did my son finish 3rd today but his sister Haley was crowned Homecoming Queen at Doddridge County High School last night.

Congrats to "Beel" Ballance, still the champ!

Hope we can ALL be at Powerline Park.

wasn't me that deserves thanks. johnny and monica and harlen, i was not home:p i always enjoy coming home and reading the coverage, makes me feel like i was there sort of. sometimes it is not perfect but its done from those that just want to be part of it and want to share it with others. how can you go wrong with that!

Well sometimes it goes better than others. I felt pretty lucky to get anything at all. But still was one incredible race. Quad issues has really been the deciding factor in alot of the races this year. Hope everyone has better luck at Ohio. Looking forward to Ironman since we'll be able to actually attend another GNCC this year.

Let me clear something up. Nate Byers didn't win the overall on adjusted time. He ran straight to the front and passed Traci for the win. I ride with Nate in Indiana. He is all about being the best. I predict him to be a Pro in 3 years.
