I have an '04 and the oil plug that is in the top of the cylinder blew out while at the mx track. Still under warrenty, I took it back to the dealer and they first told me it was a recall.(cool). When i went back to get it after they fixed it, they told me it was because I didn't have the airbox lid on(because dirt could get in and cause blow by) and if it happened again it was going to cost me. 2 years later I have had no trouble but I leave the lid on.

So is there any truth to this?

'04 yfz 450
gyt-r slip on
gyt-r 168 jet
93 oct. pump gas
twin air filter
0 to 100 ft. above sea level

Not true at all. All 04's are like that. Throw that lid away.

Rule number 1: Never trust a dealership.

There is absolutely no truth in that. All '04's had the problem of the plastic plug coming out, it happens sooner or later with all of them.

So true.......... Even the dirt bikes had that problem. It usually happens just after the bike is upside down.

mine is an 04 and the lid was off for a longgggg time according to the previous owner but i wised up and got a metal plug once i bought the bike. so i would say no there isnt too much truth to that. i thought the plugs blew out due to over heating or over filling oil?

If you motor blows up and your muffler isn't stock they will blame it on you aftermarket mufler.

Dealers try to find something to blame all your problums on so they make money.
Every probulm i ever had with my motor they said was cause the muffler. They dont know nothing and every time i take it to get fixed i pick it up and something is mest up on it.

My yz dont have a plug. It has a hole on top of the motor with a tube hooked up to it and a little oil drips out of it all the time.

older dirtbikes......... The years between the decompression mechanism and when they stopped machining out the hole.

ok, I looked it up to be specific.
'98,'99 YZ400F and '00,'01,'02 YZ426F all have a decompression lever in the spot where the '04 YFZ has the plug.

'03,'04,'05 YZ450F (dirt bikes) all still have the "plug" that pops out.

In the '06 YZ450F, the decompression hole is not machined into the head (just like the '05 quad) and therefor the plug is not needed.
I hope this helps eliminate the confusion.

On the front of the head, just above the exhaust pipe.
