no start just clicking

Well I just bought a 2001 400ex the other day. I was out trail riding and we stopped to take a break and when I went to start it all I could hear was a fast clicking from the solenoid. I can just touch both terminals on the solenoid to start it but I would like to know why it does that so I can fix it. If anyone else has had this problem let me know what you did. Thanx.

when mine did that I had a bad connection somewhere. IF its not a connection then its more than likely your selenoid

agreed, bad connection or bad solenoid.check the wires really good going to the solenoid

Thanx for the help guys. I went through all of the connections and found that the positive battery terminal was loose on the battery and the solenoid. I tightened it and it started first time.
