well we moved into our new house a few months shy of a year ago. finally we are building the new garage my dad and i have been dreaming about for years, we never have enough room to work on anything properly and efficiently. my dad and grandpa own thier own construction business so its no problem throwing a garage up.

the garage is 15 x 23 and the pad of concrete next to the fence is where our trailer is going to go and we have a new driveway for extra parking seein as there are 5 vehicles at my house.

the garage will be devoted to the quads and shop equipment. we have almost everything to assemble a decent shop minus a torch and welder which is coming soon after. the ceiling is going to be vaulted and there are garage doors going on both ends. any way here are a few pics after 1 and a half days work. should be nice when its done!

where the trailer will sit, we have never had room for it at the house anywhere, especially at the old one so this will be a nice improvment.

Thats going to be nice plus the garage doors at each end is a GREAT idea.

Keep us updated with pics.

Wow, you got that thing together pretty quick. Good idea to build it off the side of your house because you don't have to walk outside at all to get to it. By the way, are you putting gravel around the shed from the back door all the way to the road or the drivewave?

Thats awesome, I know how you feel about the nice shop thing. I have a pull building but no heat or electricty so it gets cold in the winter

Is that treated 2x4s below your wall studs?
If it is great idea...

And I see that your other garage is on the other side of the wall, It would be sweet if you cut out a 6 foot section of that wall so you can have one huge garage:cool:

I like it... congrats

Yeah, those are treated. I'd hope if his dad and grandpa own their own construction business they'd use it. My dad owns his own construction business and he always puts down a treated board first and then builds up.

wow... how many people own their own construction business?

So far it's

Now that I own a home without a garage I sure miss not having one, it's nice having a place to work indoors out of the weather. One question though, how come your foundation sits so far underground? The sheathing on the end of the house is almost touching the ground? Your houses foundation comes up almost 18-24" out of the ground like usual but not the garage? It looks likes your going to have to dig around your foundation a little to keep your siding from touching the ground.

EDIT: Quad King if you own your own const. business how come you don't know about using PT sill plates? It's a practice used in probably every stick built house for as long as I can remember.

A couple posts after that you you listed yourself as an owner of a construction business. The fact that you were surprised he used pressure treated(PT) sill plates makes it sound like you've never done that before. PT sill plates are very common, I would expect someone who owns a const. business to know this. Do you understand or are you still WTFing?

Ooh snap:p .

One question though, why didn't you go bigger on the garage/workshop?

the only reason we cannot go bigger is property line issues. the corner of the building has to be 6 feet from the property line and we are within a few inches right now. and the reason that it is set back a few feet from the house is so that the roof lines meet and no over framing is involved.

along the side of the garage is going to be grass. my dad and i had fresh dirt dropped off then we seeded it and spread hay then the next day the weather man decided to change his mind and say it is going to pour. so all that work got washed down the street:o

i have to go to work but tomorrow ill have new updated pics with a roof, windows in and everything sheeted up.

My Dad owns his own construction company. I have done my share of remoldeling and adding on to houses also building them. I was wondering why you did not take the siding off of that side of the house. So you can tie in the new shop into the old section of the house? You are going to need studs coming down the old wall where the new one meets. Just cant leave the top plate nailed in the old wall like that. Then the siding that is on the inside of the new shop now could be used on the outside. Then you could use that wall for shelve or counter space.

its supposed to storm this weekend so were trying to keep it water tight until we get the garage doors on. we are getting new siding for the entire house any how.

Cool! Like SGA said, the doors on both ends will be nice:D

Where's the rest of the trusses? I helped someone put in attic trusses a few weeks ago on a 24x24 garage. Had them put up one by one with the boom.

We usually just have two people walk them into the room and slide them up and have someone with two boards together to shape a long "y" hold the truss up while two people are on the roof and get it into place. Worked pretty good and we could get a complete garage a little bigger than that done in probably 30 minutes.

That sucks you couldn't have gone bigger because of the property lines, I figured it was because of that. You're going to enjoy your new work area but you know it would've been so much better with more room:D .

good picture of the vaulted ceiling. one added benefit of the vaulted ceiling is that we can have a 23 foot long shelf running down both sides of the garage inside for lots or storage!
